    Show Off Your Games!

Luckily I treated those chicks the way I do all my chicks, in large Storage bins with clean pine shavings, starter, and fresh water. They never had access to any of my chicken areas (thank God!). In any event, tanks guys for the suggestions. Yall helped me out in narrowing down the search.

    Show Off Your Games!

I'm hoping some of you knowledgeable folks can offer me a little advise. Several years ago I was given a "game-mix" hen, and she went down in history as my favorite hen ever. She's hatch at least 3 clutches of eggs a year, and was fiercely protective of her chicks, but not aggressive. I called...

    August Hatch-A-Long!

The temp in the incubator has been consistant, and I'm certain of the day I set them because I wrote it down. It's been sweltering hot here in Mississippi, so I'm going to guess that the lady I bought them from had stored them in a hot barn or shed. It's been wonderful, fun surprise. Today...

    August Hatch-A-Long!

Yes, just one incubator. It's cabinet style, with an egg turner and separate hatching tray. I left them in the egg turner overnight and one hatched. Another one was pipping down into the egg, and drown. So I just moved all the eggs to the hatching tray, and within a half hour another hatched...

Vet treatment of sour crop-do you agree?

To their drinking water, that is.

Vet treatment of sour crop-do you agree?

I can't give you any information on the medications because I have never had to seek treatment, but I can tell you that some Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar will do wonders for a sick crop. Add 1-2 tablespoons per gallon of water.

    August Hatch-A-Long!

Well I had a chick hatch while I was asleep last night, day 15! I guess the eggs started developing before I bought them? I had another egg chirping loudly and zipping down the egg. I was watching closely, but just checked on it. It just drowned :( Is this because I left them in the egg...

    August Hatch-A-Long!

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP? I decided to try a staggered hatch, in the same incubator. So I had eggs in lockdown that hatched, while I also had eggs in the egg turner still developing. I have had the humidity high for almost a week now. Well my first batch of eggs hatched. I just checked on...

    July Hatch-a-long

Well here it is day 21 for me, and nothing yet! Ahh, this is going so slow. I have 9 eggs in lockdown. My last hatch, I had some chicks stuck to the membrane. I'm sure I had my humidity too low. So for this hatch I compensated by bringing the humidity way up and lowering the temp just a...

No Movement Day 20 Incubation. Help??!

If you can hear chirping, that means she's pipped internally. A great accomplishment!

No Movement Day 20 Incubation. Help??!

If you have the temp a little cooler than it should be, the chick will develop a little slower. Give her a few more days, and try to get it as humid as possible in there. One way you can get the temp a little warmer without changing any settings, is covering the whole incubator with a towel or...

    help!!!

My rooster started acting droopy, and even let my duck whoop up on him. I had a friend tell me to give them garlic, it acts as a natural antibiotic. I did and it worked!! She told me to feed it to them, but I couldn't get my chickens to eat garlic. So I added it to their water instead. All...

    why i joined BYC

Well, welcome! I never thought I would have bantams, but this year I was given a couple, and I REALLY love them! There's a hatch-a-long thread. It goes by months, whichever month your eggs are due to hatch. Anyway, you can ask all kind of questions over there and some nice person will...

What breed is this McMurry free chick?

I'm not sure about silver leghorn, only because they have yellow legs, and your chick appears to have pink or white legs???

How do you keep your chickens cool? ~Heat Wave~

I keep a cheap box fan going in the run, and if it's really hot I add ice to their water. Also most days I will give them cold watermelon.

Has this ever happened to you?

Haha, this DOES happen to me all the time! My husband thinks I'm a chicken expert. If he only knew, there's sooo much more I could learn!

    July Hatch-a-long

Has anyone ever tried a staggered hatch in the same incubator? For instance, putting some eggs in the hatching tray for lockdown while leaving some in the egg turner to continue developing? All in the same incubator??
