    Leghorn Thread

I bought myself some 8 wk old Dutch Brown Leghorns this year. They are 8 months old now, are not molting, and have not laid eggs yet. Is this common for this breed?

    Sumatra Thread!

Thank you for the compliment, ClintD. I really loved our Sumatras. Because we moved, I had sell all my breeding projects (Sumatras, Royal Palm turkeys, Toggenburg dairy goats) except my Jersey Wooly rabbits, which I cut down on. I think it was most difficult to see the Sumatras go.

Her scar will be below her belly button bump. I have to say that I don't keep up what HRS currently recommends. It has changed so many times. I can tell you what I do, though. I give them a pellet-based diet. Quality is the key so buy your feed from a feed store, not a pet store. Unless...

If she is spayed, you will be able to feel the scar. It's not her umbilical "bump" (belly button) but I believe it will be between that and her vent. If you are still unsure, ask your vet. If they don't know, get another vet. lol Kidding. ;) Your vet will be able to tell you.

    1. Do any of you guys take your rabbits to the vets yearly? That is an HRS promoted idea. Any vets listed on their website have agreed to promote their ideas including that of diet which will, in many cases creates a revolving door to your vets office - rabbit eats irregular diet, gets sick...

What Rabbits Do You Have? Show Off Your Rabbits Here!

Ah, well I have seen "throw backs" pop up in my show herd so I can understand that. I'll get a baby that look so much like one of the background breeds that they really stand out. I suppose it might be a fun project to play w/genes if you could get a hold of a very typey Velveteen but as...

Whaa? LOL Are you pulling our legs? He looks just like what I'd imagine and F1 or F2 Velveteen looking like. Too cute. What breed are his parents? I can't imagine ears that big "up". I would have guessed at least one parent was English Lop because this be has noooo ear control. And he...

About breeding..... What method are you using? Table breeding, cage, colony, repeat (and what are the times)? I'm asking because the method and timing can really make a difference. I recently tried my own method based on things I've learned over the years and so far this year the pregnancy...

My newest Jersey Wooly babes (4 wks here). So far, the whole litter feels great. For those who show, how're you all doing on the tables? Whatcha working on? Me? Fullness in the sides of the lower HQ, making those pinbones disappear again, getting my ideal ears back, and cleaning up color.

Do you think it is your breeding method that may be the problem? How, when, where are you breeding them? And, a bit on the lice/mites...yes, those critters like specific hosts. However, if their preferred host is suddenly gone or (?) then they will migrate the the nearest "convenience store"...

    Cornish X Help

Thumbs up from me, too. I bought 15 chicks this year. I figured for three losses so, 1 chicken/month for my family of 6 (which is what I calculated we eat in one month (4 meals/bird). This is how I raise them: Feed: 1 - 50 lb medicated feed - fed them this for the first 3 weeks...

    Breed confusion!!! Help!!!

A week or so ago, a TSC clerk told me the BREEDS of their chicks and ducklings were "Bantam, Straight Run, and Pullet". I was amused but asked again. "Thank you, but I mean, are they RIRs, Cornish X, or ?". I got the same answers. So.......you may have very well have got the wrong...

Okay, just one more - a nice surprise i got recently. My buck Chance is currently in 6th place for Jersey Wooly "Rabbit of the Year". It's the NJWRC contest for most points earned by a single rabbit. He won't win but I'm still proud of him.
