I took the ducklings on their first "field trip" this past Friday.
First they weren't sure how to react so everyone just huddled together and checked out their new surroundings. Left to right: Anastasia, Emrys, Saphira, Morgana and Lena.
Then they discovered that I had put a water dish in...
Thank you.
I will take the bands off today. Mainly left them on because I wanted to make sure I could tell the Welsh drake from the duck (banded on opposite legs). I've got that figured out now-he's got lighter coloring on his body.
At what age is it ok for them to go outside for short periods...
Lena (Buff) is also very curious and friendly. She's the smallest so I guess she has "little duck syndrome" and thinks she's the biggest and baddest duck ;)
Cayuga-Anastasia-seems to be the friendliest. I wish I had ordered 2 Cayugas instead of just 1. I'm thinking Cayugas are going to be one...
Thank you both! @casportpony and @Miss Lydia
The female Buff, Lena, has already shown her personality-sassy, bossy and for some reason she likes to jump. I can't wait to see what the rest of them are going to be like. :love
Thank you. I'm already in love with them! I want to sit in there and hold them all day but I'm trying to give them some time to settle in and adjust.
Is there a certain age that Brewers Yeast should be stopped or cut back on?
Also, should the flock raiser be cut with oatmeal at a certain age due...
I think I'll sprinkle just a little on top of their feed just to make sure they are getting enough. I've never seen the Mazuri around here but I'll look into it. Thanks!
I picked the babies up about an hour ago. Everyone is doing great: eating, drinking, running around like little kids hyped up on caffeine and sugar!:wee Anastasia-the cayuga- is active but seems quieter than the rest (for today at least lol).
So for the past days I've been searching for info...
I think the tracking info just says by 8 pm to cover themselves. My PO only gets one truck a day and it comes in at 630 am. Talked to them the other day and they said whenever they arrive on the 630 am truck they will call me around 730.
No, it was Meyers hatchery.
Yes, they are shipped. :wee:woot
Tracking says they shipped last night and are "arriving by 8 pm Weds", which would probably mean Thurs morning before I can get them. I thought the hatchery was located in Ohio but it says they are shipping from CA.
Also, I should have been more clear-when I said Distribution center I meant the mail Distribution center, not the hatchery. I absolutely would have picked them up if there was a hatchery within an hour from me. This shipping amount was terrible!:(
Yes. It wasn't the ducklings. It was the vitamins and Grogel-they were shipped separately. The hatchery website says those items would be shipped in the same box with the ducklings so I thought it was ducklings and those items.
Because I didn't know anything had been shipped until around 11 p.m. last night. I didn't get any updates/emails etc to let me know any kind of package was on its way.
Been a busy weekend so tonight is the first time in 3 or 4 days that I've had a chance to come to BYC. I finished up reading here awhile ago and for some reason decided to check on my duckling order. It still says they are due May 1-3 but it now has a tracking # and when I click on the tracking...
I am in love :love with the walkway/ramp you have going up to the duck pool! I may borrow this idea when we finish the new duck pen, depending on what we use for the pool. Do you have anything on the inside of the pool to help them get out or do they manage to get out easily on their own?
@Jillchapa86 I just noticed you have rubber ducks in your pool for your ducks to play with-that is TOO cute! We have chickens too and it wouldn't bother me a bit to find homes for a few of them but there are others that have the neatest personalities and I couldn't re-home them because I would...
