Anyone have any thoughts on what has happened to this chicken's beak? I just noticed it yesterday, she (I say, she, turns out she is probably a he - that is a whole separate issue) is one of 5. The other 4 all look fine. The behavior of all of them seems fine, haven't noticed anything odd.
So, it sounds like these are both roosters, one is a BPR and the other is a mixed breed. Honestly, I'm not worried about the bread, I'm just worried about the gender...here is a better picture of both of them...
So, I have two PBRs, they will be 14 weeks old tomorrow. One of them let out 5 or 6 softened cock-a-doodle-dos this morning. It wasn't crazy loud, you could only hear it outside, and wouldn't hear it from inside the house. I know this is a pretty vocal breed, any chance a hen would do that? Or...
The posts won't be 12 feet apart, there will be others in between, I just know I'm not going to cement those into the ground.
Regardless, after you all mentioned bear stories, I searched some on here and, "yikes!" This could get interesting.
We are in the process of building our chicken coop/run, it will be 8' x '12, with a 4' x 8' coop inside a few feet off the ground and will house 3 ladies (we plan to add 2 more next spring). Right now all I have done is laid the 8x12 frame, and buried wire mesh about a foot deep all the way...
Crazy story! I am nervous about hawk/eagle/falcon issues, but haven't had any yet; as they frequent the corn field. But, I'm thinking once "winter" hits, I'm gonna have to be much more careful. I've heard they are less likely to attack the chickens in the spring/summer when there are more mice...
I would love to have an automatic door to our coop. The girls are good about getting in on their own every night, but I still have to go out and close it before I go to bed and open it first thing in the morning.
My girls free range for a few hours every day. I usually let them out of the coop, then go about doing my own thing and check on them every so often. We have a fenced in backyard and haven't had any issues yet.....once "winter" hits Texas I will be a little more careful for hawks though. I've...
I leave the feeder in the coop for only a limited time, about an hour in the morning and three hours in the evening. And they usually free range for about two hours or so. Also, give them some yogurt every evening before bed.
ACV is supposed to be great in keeping their digestive system healthy and bolstering their immune system, I don't believe, at least I don't have any reason to believe, that it specifically prevents cocci, although a stronger immune system certainly can't hurt. I am fairly new, but I have done a...
I am new as well, my chicks have officially been in the coop for one week. I put their food down and open the door to their coop at 5:45, but they don't usually come out until about 6. Today, however, I slept till 6:45, and when I went out there they were ready and waiting. Probably wondering...
