I grabbed a little chick like this from the Rainbow Layers bin at the feed store a couple of years ago. I couldn't stand to wait and see what it was so i emailed the hatchery a pic and they told me it was a Sicilian butter cup.
I got 8 black sex links from orscheln's yesterday. There were at least 25 of them in the cage and I just randomly grabbed eight chicks that had clean bottoms, upon closer examination at home I did end up with one chick that was quite a bit more reddish/brownish than the others. It's similar...
We love our Red stars! They started laying in August of 2010....layed great all this winter. Can we expect them to lay through another winter or will we need replacements this year?
Thank you a bunch for your replies. I had searched but was having trouble finding info about how the breed works in something beside a tractor and I didn't know if it was too early in the year to squeeze this in so I threw this out there. I appreciate the input! We will make something work

Our goal is to maintain a flock of layers that will provide eggs for our small family and allow us to sell enough eggs to at least break even on feed costs....
We have a 11X14 coop for layers to live in and a 8X8...

Thanks for the welcome! As you already know, this is the best site! Not sure if I know how to post pictures yet, we'll see.

I grabbed seven rainbow layers in the opening hours of chick days here at our local farm store. All I was thinking was YES! They have EE's!!! Now that I'm home with them I'm wondering...did I get all EE's or did I get an assortment of chicks that will lay colored eggs (brown and white...
