I hope not everyone is nursing a bad head, or hopefully won't be soon ;)
My question is this, in sunny old England, it has in fact been super windy and done pretty much nothing but rain, the fences are down, the grass is now slosh and mud and well, it's just generally very miserable weather...
Well I let my girls out this morning. And despite best efforts to close off gaps etc. She got over again. BUT after doing my usual search to see where she's gone. I found her in a bush literally less than a meter away roosting. Egg production has virtually stopped since it got really cold. So...
I've honestly never urged so much in my life, it put me off making an omelette that's for sure. Is there any reason behind this? Can I stop this happening in the future?
Thanks :)
I'm not a huge drinker but decided to have a few pints last night. So I'm feeling a little worse for wear today.
Impeccable timing for one of my girls to find the most miniscule of holes in my fence and have a mad dash around my street. All I can say is thank God for cul-de-sacs!
I didn't really think anything of it when we started getting 2-3 eggs from 5 hens when usually we got 5-6.
I just went out in the garden because after looking out the window I could only see 4 hens. After hearing low purring and clucking I looked in a bush to find one of my girls surrounded by...
Firstly. Does she look healthy to you? She's going through a moult at the moment
not an amazing pic but it is hard to get one when they're frolicking!
And second. I understand the pecking order and everything. But is it normal for them to have a peck at the red thing on their heads? (I'm...
Hi guys. The weather here has been nothing but rainy the last 3 days. Tonight it's particularly harsh. I'm wondering whether to keep my girls inside for tomorrow. I always make sure they have plenty of water and food. I know they won't go out in it if they don't want to but I'm not sure how much...
So I thought I'd follow fill up their food for the night etc. And I noticed that as they huddled in together they started to peck at each other, nothing overly violent or anything, I was just wondering if this was normal? we've had them around a month now and it doesn't seem to cause them any...
And while she's doing her thing, another one has gone up to her, started pecking her (I'm assuming it's gently, she isn't making pained noises or anything) and scratching by her, literally RIGHT by her, is this normal?
Thanks
I went into the coop because I could only see 4 out of our 5 girls, and one was lying down, I THINK over some eggs, I saw a couple anyway, making low "puhpuhpuhpuh" sounds on and off, I didn't immediately think she was in danger cos I saw eggs so I thought she might be broody, but could this be...
And she keeps looking like she wants to sleep? Is something wrong? She doesn't look in any discomfort. But it's quite out of the blue. She's been ok most of the day. They usually retire inside around now or within 15 minutes (it's 18.30 here) so is she just tired? Thanks
I've noticed one of our hens has a big red patch on her wing and they are beginning to fight a bit. One has even taken to becoming an escape artist. Is this normal behaviour every now and then? It's never happened in the 3 weeks we've had them. I'm getting quite concerned about the whole situation
As standard my girls are enjoying tearing up my lawn, but it's starting to get a bit dirty now, mainly due to them pooing alot -_- we're waiting on some more chicken wire so we can extend the run, but are there any quick fixes to clean it a bit for now? Thanks
Hi guys, I was just reading up on another thread here regarding flooded runs and/or coops
My garden is pretty wet thanks to two days of rain. Not heavy, not constant, and I was just watching them scratching about and doing their thing, will they be ok and free of bumblefoot or should I limit...
Our chickens are quite healthy layers and we're slowly becoming overrun with eggs. I enjoy hardboiling around 3 of them and giving them to our 5 hens. They go crazy for them.
But obviously, you can get too much of a good thing. So my question is how much is too much? Thanks!
