Chickens not laying - they never have!

Update: We just started getting eggs from our little silkie hen! So that is very exciting. About every other day she is laying. Hopefully our three Wyndottes will start following her lead here shortly. Thank you everyone for your advice and helpful words - I really appreciate it.

Chickens not laying - they never have!

@Quailsong thank you for this response! When I was talking to the ladies at my feed store they acted shocked and made it seem like they should have been laying weeks, if not over a month ago! I figure with my Silkie I will be waiting as I have heard they are late layers, but now I feel better...

Chickens not laying - they never have!

So I have three Silver Laced Wyndotte hens and one silkie hen and one silkie roo. Not one of my hens has laid an egg (that I am aware of). I have raised all of these chickens from chicks, and I got them back in May. They eat well, get plenty of sunshine/outdoor time but are not laying. My local...

Animals to keep to help protect chickens from predators

So I am kind of at my wits end. Yesterday we had two dogs, with collars, that I had never seen before attack my two sweet hens. My son and I had just been outside with them, had to run into get something and then two minutes later, here these dogs were and they attacked. We live in a rural area...

Sick Hen - Pale Comb, Less Active

I think I saw lice. I will go to the feed store again tomorrow and get something stronger. As for deworming - no, these are two birds that we were given, and how do I even go about that process?!

Sick Hen - Pale Comb, Less Active

Over the past three days, my white hen has stopped laying, seems less active, and today especially I have noticed that her comb is pale compared to the normal red it usually is. I thought I saw some little yellow bugs - chicken lice - but have not seen any sign of them since I first thought I...

Baby Chick Lethargic and Sitting like a lump :( HELP

Thank you @mandymae1984 ! I will get some of that tomorrow first thing. The little bit of sugar water I gave it seems to have given it some more energy - at least enough to eat a bit and rejoin her fellow peeps. Im keeping a close eye on her. I can't imagine how stressful this is for these...

Baby Chick Lethargic and Sitting like a lump :( HELP

I have three silkies and four silver laced wyndottes all just a couple of days old. I picked up the wyndottes from the post office this morning, the silkies I picked up on Saturday. I have them all in one large tub, separated by breed since they are a couple days apart. The one little wyndotte...

    Fox :(

JackE - you have a beautiful run and coop and thank you so much for the advice on the electrified poultry netting. I am going to have to look into that. It seems like it would be a great solution to really protect my hens. How do you protect from hawks/other birds of prey?

    Fox :(

Thank you <3 The space beneath my coop is less than 6" (its settled into the ground) and the fox crawled underneath and got in the little door from the coop to the run. I just never thought the darn fox would crawl through the mud in such a small space like that. We have chicken wire attached...

    Fox :(

I figured I could post this here, but I came home today to find a fox had got into my chicken run. I am so sad. We had one laying hen, whom I had grown really close to, and she was killed. Only one hen survived, and I am honestly not sure if she will make it or not. Her rump feathers got bitten...

    Roo or Hen???

Hopefully my images work - not sure if my Barred Rock is a roo or a hen - about 13-15 weeks old.

    4 Chicks - 2 Roos 2 Hens?!

Thank you all SO much - this is super helpful. We actually just purchased a coop, so they will be moving outside here shortly. I was worried about the weather being too cold for them - I guess I was just waiting for more feathers to come in, but I guess they will be fine. . . it does get to...

    4 Chicks - 2 Roos 2 Hens?!

Thank you so much! The two are definitely New Hampshire pullets. Im just bummed about the Barred Rock being a cockerel as well as one of the New Hampshires. Oh well, I guess I will be finding one of them a new home :(

    4 Chicks - 2 Roos 2 Hens?!

These are my "fellas" - also if anyone knows what breed these are that would be a HUGE help to. I have three of the orange/brown and one of the black and white.

    4 Chicks - 2 Roos 2 Hens?!

Three weeks ago I got four chicks at the hardware store, and they were supposedly sexed, and approximately 4-6 weeks old. Now that the chicks are about 7-9 weeks, I think I have two roos, two hens. The two that I think are roos have longer combs, that are distinctly red, and the one is very...
