Hi everyone
A few months ago my friend's cat dragged a chick through the cat flap. After unsuccessfully attempting to find the chicks original home, the chick was given to me to raise. The chick has grown into some sort of mixed breed bantam rooster.
I've grown attached to the rooster, I love...
Hi everyone!
I'm interested in starting a new flock. A while ago, I saw some white hens with large, red combs that flopped over to the side. I found them adorable! I enquired about the breed but can't remember what they were called...
Which breeds of chicken have hens with the largest combs?
Hi everyone
A few months ago, my friend's cat dragged a small chick into the house through the cat flap. I hadn't kept chickens for a while but still had all the equipment and accessories needed to raise a flock, so the chick was given to me
The chick has grown up into a small, mixed breed...
There's only one other hen with her and I haven't noticed any any pecking going on between them.
I am feeding them layers pellets mixed with a little 'keep - well' (natural pellet poultry tonic) I also ocasionally give them 'hentastic' chicken treats.
I don't notice any poop or flies but she...
Hello everyone!
A few days ago some friends gave me a couple of hens. The hens used to live in a school yard but needed rehoming as the children and teachers broke up for the summer holidays.
When I received the hens my friend (who works at the school) said one of the hens had a naked backside...
Hi everyone
I'd like to keep some chickens indoors (because I'm a crazy chicken lady!) Can anyone help me select a suitable, friendly, attractive breed for keeping indoors?
Also, do you think it would be best to buy, hatch and raise some fertile eggs rather than taming an older chicken?
Aww, they're lovely!
I have a pair of lavender Pekins. The rooster is has a brilliant personality and is a real softie, I love him to bits...His hen however, is generally quiet and isn't interested in human interaction.
Unfortunately my rooster is getting very old :( I know he won't last...
Does anyone know of a good chicken vet in the UK?
I think my cockerel might have chlamydophila psittaci and I need a veterinary clinic who can do a blood test to see if he has it. The avian vets in my area all specialise in parrots/cage birds. They have all agreed that my rooster may have...
Hi Redgolden
Golden pheasants are quite hardy birds however they can get frost bite on their toes if they're not given the correct perches. I would always give them a large covered area over their sleeping perches to ensure they're dry and comfortable. Covering their sleeping area will also...
Hi everyone.
I tried keeping golden pheasants and chickens together. Bad idea. Pheasants are quite shy and flighty so the chickens would bully them and steal their food. The chickens will also tread on and break their tail feathers, leaving them looking a mess.
You're right about disease...
