1st duck egg to hatch EVER!!!!!

I thought that chick starter was medicated and baby ducks cannot eat medicated food. That's what the guy at the feed store told me.

How long does it take a duck to get out of the egg?

It's been my experience that ducks take longer to hatch after they've pipped than chicks. I was worried, as well, when mine pipped but then did not hatch like my chicks did.

    Candleing question

I'm no expert (only had 4 hatches) but I would say what you are seeing is exactly as it should be.

    Care for duckies

Anyone have a good site on taking care of baby ducks? My duckies are 5 days old and so far I've been caring for them like I did my chicks, except unmedicated food. Now I'm wondering when they can go swimming.

    Little Giant

I just hatched my first hatch of ducks in an LG. (8 out of 10 hatched). I kept 1 plug in and the other out until I stopped turning. I never misted my eggs or did the cool down thing. I just kept the temp. around 100 and the humidity around 45% for first 25 days. When I stopped turning them I...

    Thanks all!

I just hatched 7 duckies using the info from all the posters here. I followed your good advice and my 1st hatch went great. I really appreciate those who take the time to answer questions from newbies like me.

    hatching duckies.....help!

All 8 of my duck eggs pipped yesterday. Most have more than one pip hole. One has died with his little bill sticking out. My humidity is 75%-78%. Seems like it's taking these duckies longer than my chicks. How much longer? I'm beginning to worry.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

It really is a good learning experience. We spend the 21 days learning all about the parts of the egg and the development each day. They love to see the chick move when we candle. I would recommend it to any teacher. Next we are moving on to ducks!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

For the last 3 years I have hatched chick eggs in my First Grade classroom. I would usually put in about 32 eggs and prayed for 12 to hatch. This year I spent considerable time on the BYC message board taking advantage of all the experience here. I am proud to say that out of 24 eggs this...

    spraddled legs

I just hatched 20 out of 24 eggs in my classroom at school. They were all fine except for one who is unable to stand. Each time he tries, his legs go out to each side. Can i do something to help him? I've moved him away from the others to prevent them pecking on him.

egg crate hatch in LG....please advise

I would like to try hatching in an egg carton this time. I have a LG still air bator. With the eggs in the carton to hatch, does that put the top of the egg too close to the heating element? I know the LG doesn't have as much 'head' room as other models.

I bought one of those hygrometers from Walmart and didn't know you had to calibrate them first. How do you do that?

    hatchability of porous eggs

School teacher here....I will admit that I am a novice but when I candled my eggs most of them are speckled, which I have been told means they are porous. I've also been told that porous eggs usually will not hatch. I got my eggs from a large hatchery through a school program they offer rather...
