Hi, Gang! Haven't been on BYC in ages, so you know the first place to check out had to be GrannyHatchet's thread! Granny, hope you are well. I stopped getting email notices etc and got busy with other things and next thing you know it's over a year? since popping in. Hi, CSolis! :frow...

    Dunghill Fowl

Just stumbled onto this thread. Very exciting if you have managed to resurrect this variety of chicken! :jumpyCongrats! I hope someone posts a pic soon. Not sure what my chances are of ever getting to meet them in person. This has got me wondering . . . Would this type have been widespread...

Granny's gone and done it again

Oops, better get to bed. I LOVE when they push the clocks ahead, even though we lose the hour, but since we lost the hour, it will catch up when least expected. Cheers, All! :frow

sigh If TSC gets a store in my area it`s going to be very tempting to give them my business instead of the feed store that`s been around for more than a half century.

    Dog name ideas?

Pretty much everything I know about border collies and herding is from reading Nop`s Trials by Donald McCaig. Great story and lots of info about how border collies work. He mentioned something about brace? (it`s been ages so I may misremember the term) dogs that learn the opposite command so...

Comment by 'ChirpnBern' in article 'Aggressive Baby Chicks and How to Stop the Behavior'

The remedy I was told about 40 years ago was to put a piece of sod in with them. Always works for us. They peck the grass instead of each other. If they were out with Momma they`d be pecking and pulling on everything but options limited in a brooder, so 1 or 2 of them substitute mates` eyes...

    Dog name ideas?

How exciting for you! It seems a very personal issue though. In my experience my animals have always sort of told me their names, as in I had to meet them and sometimes even have them for a bit to know what the best name would be. Good luck!

    Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hi! I go to Davis in Rushland. That`s maybe a half hour or so from me. Perkasie would be too much of a hike to go pretty much every weekend (which I do). Thanks for the tip about Pickering Valley. Might have to check them out if I`m feeling ambitious. And hello to dheltzel and Auroradream26...

Ooooh, okay, couldn`t remember if I ever heard of these so just looked them up. That one page full of photos. . . They look Photoshopped or something! I can see why so many people want them. They are really special. Upside to being so broody I guess is you get a lot of them, but downside is...

Talk me into? As in what breed(s)? I`m up for suggestions. It`s probably time for an infusion of young blood this year anyway. I go to Davis Feed Mill in Rushland, Bucks Co. One used to be able to get all kinds of cool birds like chukar, bobwhite (I think) quail, wild turkeys, ringneck...

Anybody here ever try to dye the light brown eggs? We do, especially when the yellow and orange dyes are not taking-- we figured already being "started" would be a boost. I never remember from year to year though what works, so it`s always like doing it for the first time all over again...

Ouch! and Oy. And Hiya! :frow I don`t get in here much, had to go hunting for this thread, and totally :lau:clap (though not surprised at all) that it had to be split into another. I belong to a forum on another site where we used to post at least 50 pages a day. No more. You folks have...

I thought this thread was going to be about raising toads as in the amphibians, like to help increase critical populations or something. This is absolutely fascinating. Will be following!

    hen setting for long time

This thread reminds me of the story about the schoolteacher who went to a farmer to find out the proper term for when the hen is trying to hatch eggs. She asked whether the hens were sitting or setting. The farmer`s response? "I just want to know whether they`re laying or lying!" Back...
