The Sweetest Hello and the Hardest Goodbye

I lost my beloved rooster Penguin two weeks ago to an aggressive upper respiratory infection. He was 6 years old. I’ve come to this site for help so many times regarding him, he’s had upper respiratory infections in the past. He was such a good boy, the best boy. He didn’t have a mean bone in...

    Rooster with clogged nostril?

I’ll be grabbing the Vetericyn tomorrow. I’m going to be re-cleaning with some peroxide on a q-tip in the morning until I can get the Vetericyn after work. Once I get the Vetericyn that’s all I’ll use. Biggest thing is having no infection develop and no re-clog

    Rooster with clogged nostril?

I’ll be using between Vetericyn Antimicrobial and Blu-Kote until it heals up. I dare to say I’m almost glad this happened. While I had him, I did his mite/lice preventative treatment and noticed a small cut on his one foot pad that was tender pink. It was still nice and squishy like it should be...

    Rooster with clogged nostril?

Update: It wasn’t a canker and ITS OUT!! Penguin has been a brave boy the mineral oil worked like a charm to soften it up. I took a shed feather courtesy of Penguin’s hen, Honey Mustard, sterilized it, and used it to gently pull it out. He’s still got a bit of gunk in there he wouldn’t let me...

    Rooster with clogged nostril?

I’ll definitely be doing it in sessions with toothpicks. Penguin will let me know when he’s had enough of my picking. He’s a good boy. When I cleaned it the other day, he sat still for 10 minutes before he let me know he had enough. I’ve been through so much with him I can’t lose him now. His...

    Rooster with clogged nostril?

I’ll be giving them a small dish of food inside their coop until the weather gets better. I’ll work on soaking it with peroxide and mineral oil and work at it in sessions. Thank you for your help!

    Rooster with clogged nostril?

That would make sense. It’s been very wet here due to the hurricane coming up the east coast and it’s difficult to keep their feed dry when I put it out for them. I’ll be looking in his mouth today for anything but I didn’t smell anything bad and I wouldn’t think after a week he’d still be...

    Rooster with clogged nostril?

My 5 year old Bantam Rooster, Penguin, developed a clogged nostril while I was away for a week. I have no idea how this happened or what it is. I’ve never had this problem before. Other then his clogged nostril, he’s eating, drinking, and going about life as if nothing is going on. On Facebook...

    Golden Sebright

So instead of entering my mix bred rooster, Penguin, I'll be entering his hen Pharaoh. Her "show name" is "Walk Among Pharaohs". She was born May 2nd, 2015 and has had no chicks as of now (3/22/2016). She is a beautiful laced golden with a pretty pleasant attitude for the breed.

Entering My 4 Year Old Rooster

So I've contacted the general manager of the Delaware State Fair (also called the Harrington Fair) about concerns for entering my pet rooster (ie he is a pet first and a show bird second, taking him home at night when the fair is closed and bringing him back in the morning, etc) Penguin. He is a...

    Chick With Two Bad Legs

So I work at Tractor Supply and I have been taking home the chicks with bum legs. The first one I took home was a Cornish rock pullet that ended up passing away. The second one I took home is a Rhode Island Red pullet. Her hocks (or her elbows or knees which ever you call them) are calloused...

Normal 4 Day Old Chick Behavior?

Thank you for your help. I hope he is ok and was just not feeling food. Yesterday everyone stuffed themselves and they were still stuffed this morning. I felt the chicks crop to see if there was anything in it. I feel like I felt a little bit of food and or water but not fairly big.

Normal 4 Day Old Chick Behavior?

I recently was given 8 chicks bought from a feed store. All are bantams but three passed away. Two were extremely small and looked to be pulled from the incubator a tad early. I also forgot that you can't put foreign chicks around other full grown chickens which I stupidly did but I'm not taking...
