    Cross breed questions.

Thanks for responding. I was thinking the wyandotte also because of the almost identical color pattern. Some people who have been to my house have assumed that she is the same breed as my rooster. I guess that I could just experiment, and if I'm not happy with the results,...make soup.

    What is this hen?

It sort of looks like a silver gray dorking, but clearly has 4 toes. Anyone have an idea?

    Help identifying these,..

Are we counting the little toe on the back of the foot also? If that is the case they all have 4 toes (3 in front 1 in back).

    Help identifying these,..

Jayzandra, None of the birds have beards. At least right now. I believe all of my chickens have 3 toes but I will double check tomorrow. It will give me a reason to pick them up. During the photo session I noticed how skittish they were and I think they don't get handled enough. I want them to...

    Help identifying these,..

"the rest could be EE or something more exotic I'm not as familiar with" Thats kinda where I'm at with it,....There seems to be a lot of chicken breeds that are similar to the last 5 pics, especially at this age. The very last one has yellow feet compared to the rest. Phoenix maybe...

    Help identifying these,..

Now I see how it works,.....Ornamental layer collection includes breeds from the "rarest of the rare list" and "top hat special" list. The golden polish is the only one off the top hat list so the rest have to be on this list. (which includes EEs) Rarest of the rare. Sumatras, Dominiques...

    Help identifying these,..

Thats what I was thinking,...it certainly acts more like a male. I think 2 of them are Egyptian Fayoumis. I didn't think I would be getting Easter Eggers in an ornamental collection,...but I wouldn't care either way. Could they be something else?

    Help identifying these,..

I origanally posted this in the wrong forum so I copied and pasted it over to here. We ordered the ornamental layer collection from Mcmurray plus the free mystery chick. We lost one of the chicks on day 2 despite our best efforts to get it to eat and drink. They are 3 weeks old now. A few...

    need some help identifying these.

I wouldnt have guessed easter egger on any of them based on the photos from Mcmurray's website. What indicates easter egger? Colored eggs would be fun. I was thinking the last few that you were unsure of could be Phoenix?? This is the Mcmurray image of phoenix chicks,....they have the...

    need some help identifying these.

We ordered the ornamental layer collection from Mcmurray plus the free mystery chick. We lost one of the chicks on day 2 despite our best efforts to get it to eat and drink. They are 3 weeks old now. A few are easy to identify but I am stumped on most. This is Fuzzhead. Obviously a golden...

    Total feed plan.

Ok so I have committed to owning chickens. We ordered the 15 ornamental layer collection plus the free mystery chick from Mcmurry. 16 birds in total. They will arrive the second week of April. I have the brooder set up in the basement and I bought a 50 pound bag of starter. I have time and...

    New and have questions.

Very helpful and informative on all replies so thank you all. I had my hopes up for virtually free meat and eggs. If feed is unavoidable for me, I will have to do some cost analysis to determine if this is still something worth pursuing. I also have a massive 125 year old two story livestock...

    New and have questions.

Thanks for the replies, Now I'm going to ask how many COULD I keep here without supplemental feeding? Half that 12? 6? What do you think? Then of course the same questions regarding pen and coop dimensions. Thanks Cliff

    New and have questions.

I may have repeat questions, but trying to sift the forum for answers is difficult. Normally when searching, the answer I find is "it depends on x,y, and z." So I'll try to be as specific as possible. Three months ago I bought an old farm house on 3.3 acres in southwest Michigan. My plan is...
