Hen injured in a bobcat attack 8 days ago. Hasn't gotten better or worse or eaten in 5 days.

Thank you! The wound doesn't look bad at all (especially now---the yellow spots are gone). That threw me off, too. But she's definitely injured in some internal way, or maybe a broken bone that I can't find. She can barely stand and stumbles when she does, so I don't think it's psychosomatic.

Hen injured in a bobcat attack 8 days ago. Hasn't gotten better or worse or eaten in 5 days.

8 days ago: A bobcat attacked my small flock and got one of our birds. I ran out there when I heard the commotion and saw that one of my Easter Eggers, Amelia, was last to get away. After chasing the cat off, I cooped up the rest of the birds, but Amelia was nowhere to be found. She appeared...

Porcelain D'uccle Rooster Needs a New Home--Seattle WA

Hi! I have 1.5 acres about 30 minutes outside of Seattle. We have six pullets that free-range during the day and are enclosed in a secure coop at night. I'm looking for a rooster and would love to give your handsome guy a home :) I'll be in Seattle this Saturday (SoDo) and Sunday (Ballard) if...

    Sick chick, please help!

Thank you! I'll do that now. She does seem better since the fluids and has eaten some of a treat I made a few days ago (scratch mixed with bacon grease). Her eyes are open and she's chirping. I'll still treat with the Corid to be safe.

    Chick attacked badly wounded

Poor thing! I have no experience with this, but there's a good post here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/203024/cat-attack-hen-skin-ripped-pic-graphic-help-please/10 #16 by threehorses. Good luck!

    Sick chick, please help!

One of my 5-week-old Brahma chicks was fine yesterday, but I found her puffed up and lethargic today. Here is a pic. She took a bit of water with Sav-a-Chik, but only when I dipped her beak in it. I have Corid, but there are no signs of coccidiosis and Sav-a-Chik makes amprolium ineffective...

More chicks are dying, and I still don't know why.

That's great info, ten chicks. It looks like Sav-a-Chick does contain thiamine, so I stopped providing that and will stick with just Corid and the medicated feed. We lost the sick chick yesterday. It was weird, I had just finished giving her a few ml of medicated water by dropper, she was...

More chicks are dying, and I still don't know why.

Thank you both! I've been putting the sick chicks in a long, narrow box partially under the heater with their own food and water. Not to keep the disease contained, but because the weak ones were getting pushed around and trampled by the healthy ones. I started Corid treatment last night (2...

    meyer hatchery chicks

I'm not necessarily blaming Meyer, but just so you know, I got 15 Easter Eggers from them last Thursday and since then 2 have died and 1 is very sick. They all arrived looking healthy and chipper, though, so who knows. I also only got 15 chicks, when it should have been 16 including the "Meal...

More chicks are dying, and I still don't know why.

I made a post the other day (https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/857325/new-chick-is-outwardly-healthy-but-very-lethargic) when we were losing our first chick. Since then, two more have fallen sick and one of those died. I still can't figure out the cause, but it must be more than an anomaly if...

New chick is outwardly healthy, but very lethargic.

Thanks, granny! It was my first one, so I'm pretty bummed hoping I didn't miss anything, but these things do happen.

New chick is outwardly healthy, but very lethargic.

GibsonChicks: She hatched on Monday, shipped on Tuesday. They all seemed healthy and chipper when I got them Thursday morning. We noticed her declining in energy and coordination on Friday, and by Saturday night it was over. I hope your little chick fares better!

New chick is outwardly healthy, but very lethargic.

Update: Little chick didn't make it. I'm grateful the others are doing well and hope it was an isolated incident, as it seems. Thank you all for the suggestions and feedback!

New chick is outwardly healthy, but very lethargic.

    1) I don't have Sav-a-Chick yet. We're making do with Pedialyte until the feed store opens. 2) She took some sugar water a few hours ago. It didn't seem to help much, but I'll keep at it. 3) I forgot to mention that we offered hard-boiled egg yolk about the same time as the sugar water. Couldn't...

New chick is outwardly healthy, but very lethargic.

Thank you all! We're doing the best we can with what we have here, but now she's not even standing and is probably on her way out. I appreciate the help and will keep trying, though. I actually do have ironless children's vitamins here...

New chick is outwardly healthy, but very lethargic.

The feed store near me said they carry something equivalent (Lifelyte? Life Line?), but unfortunately I couldn't get there before they closed. I've been offering her the Pedialyte but even with her beak dipped in it, she's not very interested.

New chick is outwardly healthy, but very lethargic.

Thank you both. I got her to take some sugar water but no warm, wet food. And it seems to be getting worse---I found her on her back under the heat lamp. I was prepared to lose a few to shipping, disease, birth defects, etc., but it's frustrating that conditions seem optimal and she's dying for...

New chick is outwardly healthy, but very lethargic.

I got my first chicks Thursday morning, shipped from Meyer on Tuesday. Except for one pasty butt, they were all very healthy and active. But since then, one chick seems to be declining. I noticed yesterday that she was lethargic and today she seems to stumble easily when walking around. I can't...
