Wow nice fence setup! I wish I could have that setup.
With the floor, I've had dirt floors and raised floors and concrete floors. With the dirt floor and straw I always had a hard time keeping the smell all the way gone. No matter how well I raked and shoveled it seemed to stick around. That...
I'd be worried about wild life getting in really easy.
The sizing sounds great and is tall which will help with cleaning it out.
But it looks like it will be easy for a fox or snake or neighbors dogs to dig under or lift up the bottom of the sides.
I had a racoon take a duck from the top of a...
Hey,
I have one drake and 3 females. Only One cares at all to sit on a nest. I had one duckling hatch so i split the house up so she would be alone with the babys.
I didn't do a very good job and the drake jumped the fence I built. First time its ok, I built up the fence more. The next day it...
I moved away from food names after the last attack and I lost Dorito, Lunchbox and Apple.
The current lot are
Sir Duckalot, Clint Duckwood, Spot, Duck Vader, Princess Duck, and noname.
Hope that gives you some ideas =)
After watching a racoon attack I went all mother duck insane and built a house. It is made from t1-11 boards, hardware cloth on both the window and roof with white greenhouse plastic over it, cattle mats, flat bricks and a broken plastic fence. There is an open holed cattle mat cut to fit where...
Just a random side note: I had 4 ducks in a dog yard like that and watched a racoon drag a Pekin by the neck through the top of the door and the top of the cage. It was about a 4 inch gap. Another time a fox forced his way in at the bottom gap and took another. I can't tell from the pics but you...
I'm sorry for your loss. I live in the country and we have a lost a few ducks over the years.
Options:
trash can
Different areas have different laws about putting pets/livestock in the trash. May want to check your area first to ser if you can but if you want to risk it go for it. If you do...
I caught a racoon red-handed trying to carry away one of my ducks, the hole in the cage was only 4 inches wide but he was able to pull her by her neck through the hole. Racoons are mean and will try to come back over and over. They make electric poultry fencing and that can help but a strong...
I have been giving her roman lettuce, 2 inch deep water bowl, and taking the bread from her every time I see it. From what I can tell 2 of the 7 eggs hatched.
i would be able to but the wildlife place said leave the eggs and I have no way to take care of them until they hatch out - no incubator
One of the eggs was cracked when I looked in the nest. but no duckling to be found you can see it in the second picture right side top egg
what worries me the most was that she would not stand up when she went back onto the nest. When I checked on her last night on my way home from work her nares where running a clear liquid (not sneezing) but there is no water source near her. I know they will run sometimes. Oh also when I saw her...
Until you can get a friend, try cheap dollar store mirrors. I had a dog attack and he took all but one. She was depressed until I got her a mirror friend. She talked to it all the time and hung out with it as well. Once she was doing better from the attack I moved her and 3 "friends" outside one...
Ok so I park in a parking garage in md at the metro. I found a girl there sitting on a nest in the corner. She lets you get about 2 feet from her befor she mantles and acts as if she was hissing but no sound. I got to see her off her nest today. She does have eggs. I moved back and she got back...
I had a similar occurrence happen, Mirrors help until you can get another duck. the dollar store has cheap hard to break mirrors you can hang one or two around the pen by the pool or feed. Mine would talk to the mirror duck all the time.
Petfinder.com has ducks as well...
hey,
So i let the ducks out of the coop and one did not want to come out. I checked inside and then chased out the duck - they are all about 8 weeks old- and noticed that the pekin would not walk normal or reach down to drink from the pool. She keeps her neck tucked in tight so I gave her water...
