    First time hatching eggs!

That is so cool! This is a homeschool project for our kids as well! None of ours ended up hatching. I am not sure exactly what happened. We will try again soon when we have another broody. I know some chicks just don't make it. Nothing that can be done to prevent it, it's just part of life...

Egg missing from under broody hen?!

I've heard that some hens will get rid of an egg they know is a dud. She could have possibly eaten it, or kicked it out and someone else ate it. I've only had chickens a year but i read that recently when tryin to figure out all about hatching under my broody.

    First time hatching eggs!

Is it normal for the eggs not to move? Should I still give some time?

    First time hatching eggs!

I've floated them in warm water to see if I can see any movement and there hasn't been any movement. I'm wondering how much longer to wait

    Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth

I use DE on my flock. I stopped for a while and they got mites. We lost one :( But we've been reapplying DE to the chickens every once in a while. and I've cleaned the whole coop and sprinkled DE in there as well. Seems to be helping. I also add oregano and Thieves essential oils to their water...

    First time hatching eggs!

we have a broody hen and we gave her 9 eggs. We've put her in a brooder box in the garage so the other chickens will leave her alone. For some eggs it's been 23 days and for others it's been 21. Still no sign of hatching. How long do you wait before giving up? And my broody has only eaten once...

    Unexpected death cause??

Ok thanks. I completely cleaned out the coop, sprinkled the whole thing with DE, dusted the chickens with DE and added garlic to their food and water. Hope that rids them of anything harmful. Thanks :)

    Unexpected death cause??

I would like to know how to prevent whatever killed her from spreading to the rest of the flock. That's my biggest concern.

    Unexpected death cause??

we have a silver crested polish hen that was missing feathers under her wings and a little on her back. Weve rubbed our flock down with DE every so often so we thought that would take care of it. She ate, roosted and kept up with the others but today she laid down in the run and died suddenly...

    Found a hidden nest!

I found over a dozen eggs in a nest my chickens made behind our shed. No idea how long they've been there. Is there a way to know if the eggs are ok to eat or not?

    Lethargic hen

What symptoms would indicate parasites? Her poop seems to look normal. Her tail is tucked down, if that means anything at all.

    Lethargic hen

I have a one yr old partridge cochin hen who is laying down a lot. Her comb is pale compared to my other Cochins. None of my 4 Cochins are laying right now. Most are molting. But this hen is not molting at the moment, has normal poop, and does not seem to be egg bound. What could be the problem...

    What breed are these?

I've got 3 of these lovely docile ladies. Very friendly, adventurous, and fun. We thought they might be Easter eggers, but not sure they meet the criteria. Still not sure what color their eggs are. Still trying to figure out which of our 13 hens are laying.

Free 5 month old silver polish rooster

Our handsome 5 month old silver crested polish rooster is not getting along with our cochin rooster. We also have too many roosters per hens. Got to find him a new home. We've raised him from a day old chick on all organic feed and completely free range. He's very healthy and has been well taken...

    First egg!!!

Found our first egg in the coop this afternoon!! Guessing it's from one of our 5 month old white crested polish hens (they lay white eggs right??) since they've been the first to squat. One layer down, 12 more to go!

    Boy problems

They have been raised together since day one so the Roos get along ok. One is a silver crested polish and the other a cochin. The polish has shown aggression at my kids once and has stomped his feet at me a few times. My husband and I have been picking him up often and tapping him on the head...

    Boy problems

Hi, I have 15 chickens, 2 of which turned out to be roos. I have heard there should only be 1 roo per 10 hens. Should I get rid of one? If I do get rid of the more dominant, rough rooster will the other one become dominant and rough? This is my first flock and they're only 5 months old so this...
