Thanks @rjohns39. I am considering downsizing some of the green and blue egg layers, but have made no decisions on which ones. So far behind that I may never catch up!

Please help sexing these young Isbars...Thanks

I vote cockerel. The females usually have dainty legs at this age.

    Silverudd's Blue

The blues look correct except for the light eyes. My black hens are totally black. They don't have any white feathers. Red feathers are called red leakage. Does one of your blacks have red feathers? Difficult for me to tell. The real test will be if they lay green eggs. Your blue pullet doesn't...

    Silverudd's Blue

Wow. The white ones are not a recognized SB color. It seems GFF has been producing a bunch of these. If this is supposed to be a splash, it is not a good representation. SB is a blue, black, splash breed. All of their eyes are light. One of the traits of SB are their dark eyes. The little black...

I take guesses before I am actually sure. I look for attitude, stance, leg thickness. And as above, I am sometimes wrong! It will vary with the chick and the line as to how early the boys get comb development.

Thank you! To the sex question; sometimes you can almost tell at hatch the sex if it is a cockerel. They will bust out of the shell and immediately begin acting like a boy. Other times it takes waiting for comb development. I was sure this new hatchling was a pullet. She has turned out to be a...

I would say wait and see. With this breed it is way to early to tell. Splash confuses me too. This is a DD ( double dilute).

Does she have opportunity to dust bathe? It may be a juvenile molt going on.

Your chick has sprigs. It is a single comb, but with sprigs. To have sprigs this early is unusual in my experience.

I agree with you Donna. Across the entire BYC, at least the threads I look at, it seems extremely slow.

It is always difficult to guess with them, which is part of the fun. Is #2 crested? I love the blue in #3. Mine usually have more white on them than #1. These are pictures of my Spoticus and what he turned out to look like.

    Friesian Fowl Q&A Discussion Thread

Mine are great fliers and foragers. They get along well with all the other chickens. They lay very well, but the egg size hasn't gotten any larger that large and mine are 2 years old. It was only medium-large last year. When I first got them GFF said they were on the heritage endangered species...
