    Bare butts!!!!!

Since spring, 7 of my 8 hens have bare butts and very minimal tail feathers. There doesn't seem to be any regrowth at all and I'm getting worried with fall/winter approaching. I constantly check them for mites etc, keep their coop and run clean and feed them the same things I did last year...

    Sore butts!!!!!!!

Thank you for your response. Yes, I did check the vent area and that seems fine. They have been eating the same for (from Tractor Supply) for layers since December. As far as table scraps, the only thing I have ever given them is vegetable scraps. I'm big into fresh veggies, so that what I...

Please... need your help - DEAD HEN!

Thank you! I'm leaning towards the prolapsed vent. She was perfectly fine and laying regularly, but I did find a very soft (almost like a water balloon), but very large egg just the other day. However, she did lay a regular sized egg the morning she passed!

Please... need your help - DEAD HEN!

Thanks for the quick respones! There is no chance of a predator, and she was laying the last few weeks! Food and water is always fresh and no chance of poison. What do I look for mites/lice? And I've never wormed them! Is this something I should do regardless?

New to raising chickens - what night time routine must I have?

Well, my chicks have been in their new coop/run for 4 days now. They seem very happy and have adjusted well. During the day, they go up the ramp and into the coop several times sometimes to take a nap and sometimes just to explore. However, every night I find them, just after dusk, all...

New to raising chickens - what night time routine must I have?

I'm about to put my 7 week old chicks outside in a combination coop/run. I plan to have food/water available for them 24/7 through hanging feeders. My quesiton is, at dusk, must I put them in the coop and close them in only to leave them out in the am or will they do this on their own?

Tetra Tint - Pullet vs Cockerel

Thanks for the reply. The comb and the feathers are all similar to the others, this one just develops a little earlier than the others. What started by worries was the spur is not just a bump, they are a little larger.

Tetra Tint - Pullet vs Cockerel

I purchased 6 pullets from Tractor Supply - 2 Tetra Tints and 4 Golden Comets about 5 weeks old. One Tetra is slightly larger than all the others and developed feathers earlier also. Seems much more friendly and not as afraid as the others, but not in anyway agressive over the others. I just...
