My coop is kinda open so I've got dirt/mulch/hay mixture. I occasionally scoop it out and replace the "mulch" which is actually left over wood shavings from some trees we had cut down. They love pecking through the shavings.
This white one is my girl, "Ellen Degeneres". I noticed yesterday some feather loss on her back and today I noticed more. I'm still new to chickens. Is there something I need to do or do differently??
If you have a rooster, I'm pretty sure they're fertilized. If no rooster, then they are sitting on the eggs for naught. I'm curious about broodiness myself. Good Luck!
I have 3 hens & 1 rooster and I'm wanting to start letting them hatch their eggs, instead of us eating all of them. I have 1 hen who lays in a different spot than the other two, so this morning I wrote the date on the one she laid, replaced the bedding under neath it (made it cleaner) and put it...
Well one of my smaller ones has a larger comb. But the others really don't have pronounced ones. But she's definitely not my largest. I'll have to check out the squatting thing! Thanks!
I have been waiting months for these suckers!! So excited to finally have them. They look different when I was them. I'm assuming only 1 of my 3 hens is laying because I've had pretty consistent 1 egg daily. Will this possibly begin my others to start laying? So excited! Love my hens & so does...
I'm at work and don't have many pictures. But this is the enclosure, it's about 9x9 and then behind them, to the left, is where the wall is cut out to be their little roosting box. It has a ramp to go up. Below, is a picture of the inside of the roosting box that I've made for them.
Everything is attached. So they have a big square pen that has laying boxes on one side and a roosting box on the other side. They are free to go wherever they want any time during the day or night.
That makes me excited!!! I hope hope hope I get some eggs soon!!
I have 3 hens and 1 rooster. They're just about 4 months old, so I anticipate that they are on the brink of laying. However, recently they won't go inside their roosting box or nesting boxes... they all huddle in a corner of the pen that I have for them. Is this abnormal? Something I should be...
I give them egg shells whenever I have them or when I give other goodies. I do crush them up and leave them in the metal pan I have. love the feeders!! I made one for their feed and will be making another for the grit once I get to the local feed store.
I've got 3 hens & 1 rooster. They're about 4 months old now. They love their little coop that's about 10x10 with a dirt & wheat straw bottom. I feed them regular chicken feed with a high protein content and also give them veggies and fruits on a daily basis (zucchini, tomatoes, oranges, bananas...
I definitely know I have 3 hens.. but my family swears the large one in the middle is a rooster. However, he hasnt exhibited any signs of being a rooster (crowing, aggression, etc.). Any advice?
My Chicks are getting big. I need to know when I should put them outside in their coop? I'm in GA and it's about 75ish during the days and 60s at night. My chicks are about 3 & 4 weeks old. I'm new to this. They are starting to loose their baby feathers. I have been moving the lamp accordingly...
