It turned out to be an impacted crop, we got her to throw it up. For future reference: give them water then hold her upside down and rub the bump around a little bit, they'll throw up a lot
My hen has a very swollen chest any ideas to help? I'm very worried she is two years old and lays about one egg each day she has laid one within the last 24 hrs she vomited water this morning she looks like she has a giant tumor under her neck at the beginning of her chest it seems to be more on...
Tonight when going to close up the chicken coop we found a skunk! It was later than they're usually put to bed because I had performing arts club until 6 and they're usually closed in at 5:15. The doors to their run and coop were open because they were playing in the yard. So anyways, I grabbed...
I can't believe my little Blue laid her first egg today!
When I got home and went to check on them and collect my older pullet, Sunshine's egg Blue followed me in and hopped into her nest to show me that she'd laid one too! She made a deep nest and laid a big white egg! Poor little girl wasn't...
Were all of them showing the signs like red comb, squatting, and nesting? And are they all the same type/ lay the same colored eggs? It was easy for me to see because two of mine started showing signs and only one layed brown eggs, so I got lucky :D I'm sure you'll find out eventually
My baby Sunshine's always cracking me up! She's the loudest of them all LOL! She's talking from when she wakes up to when she goes to bed :P. She's good when I hold her and so sweet! Love her!
My little Blue! She's such a sweetie! She loves jumping on my our backs and flying across the yard LOL! She's got the prettiest color and the biggest crown! Love her!
I love my baby Happy Feet! She's my fluffy little girl! Yes she developed slower, but it just makes her all the more innocent :) She's super sweet and a little jumpy, she lets me hold her and pet her but when I put her down she's eager to wiggle and jump out LOL! Love her!!!
Sunshine has been showing signs that she would be laying soon for a few days now. And today was the day!
I came home to the news that Sunshine had been in her coop making nests and hopping in and out of her nest all day. I went to check and saw nothing but a new nest. But! I looked closer and...
Thanks for all the tips guys! I have decided I'm going to do sand and pine shavings.
@Hokum Coco That's a really good method! The pet food I get in paper bags though :( and you're coop looks awesome!
Hiyo --
I'm thinking about putting sand in my coop, but I don't know what kind.
Probably gonna get it from home depot so what kinds do they have that work there?
Is this a good kind?
And also how do you manage it to keep it clean and odorless? Right now I use hay and it doesn't smell too...
Yeah I've seen that a lot but i didn't know how to stop them. I made them a little sleeping spot to snuggle in with a small wagon but they dont like it I'll try to block them off because I do want them to lay their eggs in their boxes not on the floor or something. Thanks for the tips
That sounds awesome! I have been thinking about using sand for a while. And I was trying to compare hay and pine shaving and I'm getting so many mixed answers XD I guess right now my chickens think their poop is a comfortable bedding! I clean in out and they just kick it out!!! Hopefully they...
im getting new nesting boxes on Monday and I want to clean out the coop as well. But I was thinking about it and I wanted to know what you use for bedding in the nesting boxes. I use hay currently and it works ok except they kick it out every night! I know they aren't supposed to sleep in them...
