    Broody Hen Noob

Okay, thanks! I wasn’t sure if candling would be something that would upset her or not. I just went out and checked and it looks as though she’s recruited help. There’s another hen sitting in there with her. Is that normal? Should I shew it out?

    Broody Hen Noob

So I have a broody barred rock and I didn’t figure it out until I noticed she hadn’t moved for about 3 days (April 22) Yeah... it took me that long to figure it out 🤦🏻‍♀️ Anyways, after about a week I caught her off of it so I went to look and see just how many eggs she was sitting on. 18!! I...

29 weeks old and still not laying 😕

Thank you. I took my boys camping for the weekend and left my husband in charge. He didn’t shut them up at night the whole time I was gone. I got home to feathers everywhere and I just happened to see the raccoon going after them when I was headed out to feed them mid day. I was quite devastated...

29 weeks old and still not laying 😕

While they were free ranging I had 4 that were laying. (3 of them turned into raccoon food 😠) They all laid in the hay bin in the barn so I would’ve assumed if the others started laying they wouldn’t lay too far from them. But maybe they would 🤷🏻‍♀️ I thought that too, about the raccoon...

29 weeks old and still not laying 😕

Here’s picture of a couple 29 weekers. Their combs still aren’t bright red but all the other Rhode Island reds I’ve had, laid much much earlier than this.

29 weeks old and still not laying 😕

Hi! I have 1 golden commet that a friend gave me. She was already laying when I got her and she still is. So there is an egg in a box at least every other day. I was hoping my other chickens would learn by example. I have 2 Isa Brown’s and 1 Rhode Island Red. All are hens, 29 weeks old...

Please help! Hen has a sever issue I've never seen before.

We thought maybe she was egg bound by watching her strut around the yard. Our chickens aren't the friendliest so we had to wait until they roosted to get her. Are chickens able to get prolapses? She doesn't seem bothered when we touch it but it can't feel good. Clearly there's something wrong...

    Meat birds aren't eating

This is about turkey's. I know this is a chicken forum but I thought since they're poultry that maybe someone on here would know something. I got 27 commercial turkeys about a month ago. When the farmer told me not to eat them for at least 10 weeks I had to ask why because some of them were...

    Non GMO feed?

Thanks for all the info! I love learning and look forward to learning all I can so I can have a happy healthy flock. They are all just a few months past a year. I love meeting fellow homeschoolers! My daughter is 7 and I can't imagine sending her away to be influenced by government standards...

    Non GMO feed?

I honestly don't know the protein content. A lady that goes to my homeschool coop has been doing this for about 10 years and has nearly a hundred laying hens and that's the mixture she uses. I'm just trying to give them a little more variety. They don't always eat the oyster shell for whatever...

    Non GMO feed?

Where do you buy? How much and how big of a bag? I buy 50lb bags of the stuff I already mix, it's lasted since March and I only spent about $40 altogether. So far I've spent about $10 a month and I still have half the bags left.

    6 eggs in two weeks!

The first two turned a year in April one sadly committed suicide two days ago by flying into our dog pen. The fence is almost 6 foot tall, I have no idea what possessed her to do such a thing. The remaining one is a barred rock. With the new ones I have 2 americanas and 6 black sex links. I was...

    6 eggs in two weeks!

In March I got two hens that were already laying. They stopped for a couple days when I got them home. I assumed it was because they needed to get comfortable in their new home. After that they would both lay an egg a day until two weeks ago. I brought home 8 more chickens and I've only gotten...

    Non GMO feed?

I mix whole oat, wheat, oyster shell, and sunflower seeds. What else could I add to the mix that would keep them on their non GMO diet?

    Already addicted!

Hey everyone! I'm so excited that I found this forum. I just recently decided I wanted to raise chickens a couple of months ago and I'm already addicted! I can't wait to see what I can learn and how I can grow my flock and have happy healthy chickens. I currently have 1 barred rock, 6 black sex...
