We inherited a young chicken. We cut the feathers of one wing and she could still fly over our 5-6' high fence. So since I am work the wife cut the feathers of the other wing but she can still get over the fence? Any other suggestions? I do not want to put a top on our run.
We have 9 chickens. 8 are just 6 months old and just starting to lay. We have one old chicken from our first batch of chicks left but she is retired.
Our friend found a young chicken in her neighborhood. She would keep it but she says it crows like a rooster and can not have that due to...
No, no blood. Does not look like a wound at all. Just nothing. we have the 2 barred rocks and the other has her comb coming in. the other chicks are different breeds and have combs. she is the odd one out. maybe just a late bloomer.
I have a 3-4 week old barred rock (1 of 10) which has her comb completely gone. Not sure if has always been that way or not. They are alone in the brooder and none seem to bothering her. I think it just never grew. Well she be ok? Does this happen sometimes or is she a freak? :-). I know...
I do not know what chicken wire is used for but I will not ever use it again. It is sharp and a pain to stretch. It wont be flimsy if you can stretch it taught enough. Use welded wire fencing.

yes they are egg machines. she is only 2 yrs old. i will get her into her own crate and see what happens. i will get some prep h tomorrow. she does not seem irritated or uncomfortable.
i am new to this....it is moist and exposed. looks painful. the incontinent comment is because she has fluid running down her fluff feathers. None of the other girls do. Our eggs have had a dried egg yolk type goo on them. they all lay in one box so it is impossible to know from where it is...
Our chickens are about 2 yrs old. I have a long leghorn that is incontinent. I can not see any other of the chickens vents thru the fluff. This one I can see. According the glossary i guess it would be called a "blowout", maybe. What can you do?
I have five hens, 2 RIR and 3 Wh Leghorns. ONe leghorn has been laying for about 4 days and a RIR just started today. Now what? I have given them free choice oyster shells, food and water. I let them out of the coop in the morning about 7am. they seem to go back into the coup about 11ish to...
yea, i know the leghorns are egg machines but the wife wanted brown eggs LOL.
what is funny is on the day i posted we got our first brown egg so now we have at least one RIR and one leghorn producing.
great. thanks. If the leghorns ended up being roo's the wife would have been upset but atleast i would have gotten to eat them. we wanted BOs but they gave us the wrong ones by the time we the feathers started coming in white it was already to late. kids had them named and they ages were right...
We have two RR that look the same and 3 White leghorns that look the same but 2 are a bit larger than the third one. They are about 6 months old. We are getting eggs from one of the white ones. we get about hite 2 eggs in 3 days so i know one of the leghorns is a hen. The RR both look like...
There are dogs bred to be Livestock Guard dogs (LGD) Great Pyrenees is one and the Anatolian shepherd is another great choice. These are strong willed dogs so do not get one if you want the dog to do tricks and be your best friend. You must be able to be leader of the pack w/ them
I live in...
The 22lr will work great but you may have to go up and do a finishing shot or two. The shotgun is not really good unless you want to hit a chicken or two. The shot spreads over distance. The best of what you own might be the 410 w/ slugs. Good to a hundred yrds. great stopping power
Had the chickens in the new coop. Forgot to turn the lamp off during the day and it feel to the floor and burned a hole thru the 3/8" plywood floor. Lucky it never ignited and the chickens were not locked in.
