Hello Everyone!! Happy Spring!!!! I have tried hatching 2 batches of silkie eggs. I only got 2 out of 13 on the first one. And 3 out of 13 on the 2nd one. Is there a something I should be doing different with them versus regular chicken eggs? TIA
I have a day old chick with curled toes. She can walk. I thought I seen a thread about this. If anyone can point me in the right direction Id appreciate it.
I suggest Black sex links or black stars they are a cross of rhode island red and barred rock excellent egg layer cold hardy and lay beautiful brown eggs all year long
Hello Everyone!!!! Im having a lot of low temp issues with my hatches. I finally got the humidity issue figured out but eggs are still hatching really late and the hatch rate is super low. Im losing a lot of chicks and its breaking my heart. I want to know if anyone can advise me to the best...
I read you can give them oatmeal. Do you mean dry oats or a oatmeal liquefied? Also I heard its good to add a little sugar to their water? Is that true?
Yes I have Barred Rock Hens and a Rhode Island Red Rooster. Thank you so much. Wow I only got one hen out of six. I have also noticed from a few earlier hatches. The hens beaks seem to be black verses the roosters are more yellow. Is this a way also? Thanks so much for the info. I also...
Just hatched out some adorable Black Sex Links. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on sexing them? Ive read about the white spot on the head and the length of the wing feathers also. I have buyers for them but they are really choosy about what they want. I don't want to sell...
Thanks again for the info. I didn't realize such high humidity was acceptable while hatching. That's what I did wrong. Trying to get the humidity adjusted I let the temp get to cool I guess. We got the fan because the humidity did skyrocket last time and up until now didn't realize that is...
Little Giant. It has a fan it it. The first hatch went well except we had trouble controlling the humidity when they hatched. So my husband bought a fan and put in it this time and it is still no easier to control. As soon as they start pipping through the shell the humidity sky rockets.
The first hatch went extremely well. 100%hatched. I have had problems with humidiy going way up and temp dropping too low this time. I cant figure out why but I just have. I candled them before I put them in the hatch box and there was movement in all of them. Thanks for all the info.
On my 2nd hatch now. 2 have hatched fine. Its day 22. I had 2 pip through the shell but something happened they died soon after. I also have 10 that have done nothing yet. Is there something I should be doing?
Thank you. Well we were not going to remove any until all were hatched. Trying to do it my the book. But the 9th one had some trouble and we helped her out. At that point we took all the hatched chicks out and put them in the brooder box under the light. Im sure that is not recommended but...
When it hatched it had some green stuff with the cord. Just checked a few minutes ago. It seems to have dried up now. I just put them in the brooder box a few hours ago. Brand new.
My one day old rir has green poo. What does this mean? Should I be concerned? This is my first hatch. All the other seem fine. She is eating and drinking. She looks ok just has bright green poo. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Hello everyone. First of all a huge thank you to all that have read my posts and given me such good information. Yesterday was my first hatch of 11 eggs and they all survived. Including me!!!! lol What a cute fluffy bunch I have. 4 Black Sex Links and 7 Rhode Island Red. I do have one...
I have 11 eggs on the 20th day. Most of them are wobbling but no sign of pipping yet. Could there be something wrong? Is 70% Humidity too high in a still air incubator?
