I just hatched out a batch of 10 bantam phoenix chicks this week. The breeding pen that the eggs came from contains a SDW rooster and 2 white hens. I was kinda under the impression that I would get a bunch of chipmunk striped chicks but only 2 out of the 10, the rest are yellow. Does that mean...

Quote: Hello Out of sheer curiosity - how do your Ibizans do with the chickens and ducks? As a sighthound - do they want to chase them? The chickens and Ibizans are kept separate. I hunt my dogs so they view the chickens as a prey item. Any bird that goes over the 6ft fence into the dog yard...

Hi all! Been a while since I visited this thread! I love seeing the pics of everyone's NNs. I currently have 15 eggs in the incubator due to hatch on the 25th that should all be NNs. They are the last offspring of my bb red roo, Big Mo', who I lost a few weeks ago. I'm hoping there will be a...

Quote: To reliably find all the standards, you have to buy the book. A lot of stuff on -line is inaccurate, and the APA and ABA websites dont list the standards on line, they want to sell the book, lol case in point, the thing on phoenix you found up there. Phoenix have never once been the...

Okay so I come from dogs and dog showing and their breed standards are available for anyone to be read online. Is the Phoenix standard available somewhere? Or do I just need to suck it up and invest in the SOP book? I assume the bantam standard is the same except maybe for recognized colors?

Do you ever get used to the flapping of the wings?

We just did our first turkey, a BBB, last night. We let him get too big and there was no way was gonna fit in a cone. We used an old T-shirt and that worked pretty well.

Rareroo thank you! Their chick down was completely different from each other (Phil was chipmunk and Phinneus was a sooty grey/black) and then they feathered out so similarly. I had just chalked it up to variance within the coloration. I hatched them from eggs I got from Boggy Bottom Bantams...

I took a couple photos of my two Phoenix cockerels Phil and Phinneus, they're almost 8 months old. I'm curious to get some opinions on them. I also am curious to know what everyone thinks of the lacing on Phinneus' breast. Is that just a variation on the Silver Duckwing? Also his tail isn't as...

Quote: Hi! Yes, Crele is black breasted red with the barring gene. Lisa She's right. Want to add that the cross with barred rock pullets will give you sex linked chicks, so only the boys would get barring gene. Cockerels born with a white head spot(that's from the barring gene) and...

Well if they are both males that would be my luck. LOL The rest of the hatch, 12 turkens, is looking to be predominately male as well! Either way I'm looking forward to seeing how they turn out. The mealy gray colored chick is a pretty easy going fellow that likes to perch on your shoulder. The...
