It seems though that the ice breaker was well rec'd.

Malgache can come out with some real weird combs, but that one takes the cake! Looks like a buttercup comb. Did somebody jump the fence????????

A Malgache or Madagascar Game is a breed of fowl once found on the island of Madagascar off the coast of Africa. They are a Malayoid naked neck Oriental breed.

It is believed that they are the parent stock of the present day Turken or Naked Neck.

They lay around 40 eggs a year: 20 in the spring and 20 in the fall. They gain weight fairly rapidly for an old breed. I've had stags that weighed around 8 lbs at 8 months. Some come with the bow-tie, some more naked than feathered, and some fully feathered (which are generally discarded).

Unlike the Ga Don from Vietnam they do not generally have feather follicles. You can find an excellent article on them by Craig Russell at feathersite: just follow the links: chickens: Malgache/Madagascar Games.

The one with the weird comb is just a naked neck chick I got in a box of 12 I picked up at an auction. He is not Malgache. I have found that the big boned plain old naked necks are pretty good egg layers, so I am building up the flock of them for that purpose. Guy

PG I like Gordon ! His comb and wattles with the textured look is very attractive to me. Ever since I can remember, I have dressed in high textured cloths. Nobby tweeds. homespun cloths and other high type weaves are my favorites.

Flower, those creases on Gordon's neck feel like a hard rubber mat. Gordon sends his gratitude as most folk look at him and say "What's THAT?????" or worse, much worse. His 'game bird' appearance....huge long legs and very tall stance is now explained to me by his Malgache ancestry....he looks more gamey than they do.!

Dragorra, that little barred rooster is very pretty....how old is he?

Any more pics. of the frankly weird? (but eminently loveable) NNs and their ancestors or progeny?
