So......does anyone in SE pa know much about capons? My spring hatches of black sexlinks were mostly boys. Just got a kit and removed some testes yesterday. Seemed pretty easy. I'm just curious if I should feed them like my meat birds or do they need more/less protein.
I did Cornish cross last year but not moyers, I'm gonna do more cx this year. Have you butchered any cx from moyers? Did any die or did they all make it to weight?
Finished my first tractor for my Moyer red broilers, never raised them before. Anyone else but from Moyer hatchery? I went with them to keep it local. I'm not an hour from them.
I've got some mut chicks down in lower bucks county if anyone is interested. Here's a pic of my tractor I started on today. Planning on doin a few small batches of red broilers instead of 30 at a time.
I just gave my birds out of date Greek yogurt. Mixed it with layer pellets and corn. I will take a picture next time. They all had yogurt all over their faces. I'm guessing yogurt will not hurt them?
I have red broilers goin now, did cx last year. We didn't have any leg issues or sudden deaths. I think limiting feed and ranginging them is where we found success. We left one live. Started laying everyday like a normal bird. We finally killed her(12 pounds) because my roo was ripping her...
Thanks, I gonna hang the nipple watered in the tractor for my broilers, might make another for my layers. The dog will not be able to drink their water now!!!
I just got some chicken nipples at tractor supy, figure I'll put them in the bottom of a bucket. Has anyone used this method of watering? Do your birds figure it out quickly?
Anybody have experience with moyers red broilers? I just picked a bunch up instead of cx in the mail. I went with Moyer cause I'd rather buy local. Figured I'd try the Reds for a change but I really enjoy eating the cx I raised last year.
These mix mallards I'm not sure what they are love this weather too, they are loud but the neighbors all have birds so it's all good! Had to eat one roo, he turned on is and attacked anything that moved. My jersey giant roo is in charge now and the girls are happier with just one boss. The ducks...
I use Davis feed in bucks county for my broiler pellets and layer feed but with this weather, my birds are out and about. My layers just follow me as I roll logs and split wood! They love the bugs!
Stake, I hatched a few EE mixes but was trying to Sexlink mu JG roo w my barred girls. Seems to have work so I just put a larger batch of eggs. I hatched a lot of black EE chicks I think they will be hard to tell who's a boy for a while.
next batch is up, added a fan, temp seems more stable. More eggs this time. Have an older bater with no turner for a lock down humid hatchery. This way I can start a new batch every 18 days. Is this a common practice? My girlfriend and I have only been chicken crazy for one year.
