I haven't been on BYC in a long while so I would like to introduce myself (again).
My name is Kim and I have had a flock for about 4 years. I have a mixed flock (mostly from Tractor Supply) that is 15 strong. I have raised this flock as a respite from life. They make me happy and give me...
Well we had a horrible set back and lost almost all eggs in my hatch. Threw out 25 last week and had 15 possibles go to lock down on Thursday. Today I went to clean out the incubator to find a pip!!! So excited she is not out yet so I'm waiting. Hoping another pip will show so I have 2 babies.
So excited!!! We candles today and at saw movement in 10, veining in 10 and only 3 not fertile - out of 40. I have a bunch of dark shelled eggs that were hard for me to tell what was happening.
I set 40 mixed eggs on the 25th. Expecting a Valetine's hatch. Mine is in a kindergarten class and it will s so fun to watch the kids react to everything.
Also one of my pullets went broody this week. Looks like they will get a momma!
I'll post pics tomorrow. :D
Rocky - my handsome 18 week old roo (mixed breed) is chasing several of my hens. He is not getting "friendly", he is out for feathers and blood. I have had to chase him down to stop it several times.
Any suggestions? I am thinking it is very likely just hormones, but I will not be giving him...
This is a mixed breed chick born 2/23. Mom is a silkie and Dad s 1/2 EE & Frizzle. I an say the chick is full size and not bantam. I'll be back with another soon. I have 4 I can't figure out.
By trash I meant their waste that had become trash. I have several birds that will try to peck through the trash bags to get to the litter I clean out of their houses.
I lost one of my girls. She went down fast. Others are finally turning around. No blood today when I opened the coop. My two...
My most dangerous daytime predator has been dogs. We have a pair if RT Hawks that nest near us, so we are vigilant and go back to the girls randomly. Yelling "Go Hawk" seems to work fine when you see them. Make sure they have places to hide though out free range area and you should be fine...
Thank you for your help. I put my hens and roo on Sulmet and my babies (who are unaffected) on Corrid. For the babies it is as a precaution. Look like 4 birds out of 12 are sick so my best guess is that they got into something during free range , possibly trash??? I scrubbed the coop with...
i was greeted by what looks like a massacre in my chicken coop this morning. It is from the stool on 3-4 chickens. They are eating and drinking fine, running around their area like nothing is new. Lately we have had a lot of rain and conditions outside have been damp. Coop is dry, not perfect...
@crc14 - I had a difficult time with the humidity once I added the egg turner. I kept vents open and ran with it dry. My hatch rate was 86% for my 1st time. Also in desperation I added a torn up egg carton to absorb moisture, not sure it helped but it didn't hurt.
