With that technique you essentially negate any size to your original plant. All you have is a developed root system. It now will either send new shoots from the root system or new growth will show in the "crotch" where a leaf branch\node meets the stem, i.e. suckers. Any advantage in time would...
New growth from a leaf node is a sucker no? I always thought topping like that caused lateral branching which isn't the same as new growth. Within 1-2 weeks any indeterminate should have sizable suckers that could be rooted. At least in my experience. What's the recovery time for the original...
I assume the new growth from the original plants comes in the form of suckers or new shoots at the soil level? Why not just root suckers? Suckers are new growth tips/stems anyway and it wont affect the original plant, no delay either. Suckers can also be rooted in plain water and then hardened...
I hope they do well for you Arielle. My gardening season has been chaotic to say the least this year. Moved recently, behind on getting stuff planted and just crazy busy overall. Havent checked in here in months. However, gardening is a necessity in my life. So even with all the chaos I still...
Good stuff, as you should. It shouldnt be about the harvest, while always nice, but about the process, time, and effort it takes to get there. It makes anything you grow, that much better tasting.
Would you believe I got him eating out of hand now?! Hes such a good Roo, couldn't be happier. And you werent kidding about the wellies being noise makers! Lol. Very happy with our mixed flock and if we get the pullet from you I think I will be set......think being the key.
No rush, whenever...
I am interested in Pene. Probably will wait til Spring, the fall is just to busy with to many other things for me. Any pictures by chance? Dont know that they are as rare as you claim, a few members in this thread have them as well.
I would try and find a soluable Calcium supplement if it were me and the problem continues. I dont think the eggshells will break down in usable form quick enough to offer any benefit. Even if you grind them into a powder. Some of those "old tips and tricks" are just myths. I could be wrong...
Romas, and anything with that elongated roma or heart shape will be more prone to BER. Round tomatoes almost never get it. Just the way it is. Some are more prone to it than others. Calcium uptake and inconsistent watering are the usual culprits, but other factors can contribute as well.
This is Grub's Myster Green and the cherry is called Verde Claro. Arielle if you are interested in trying a few Green When Ripe Varities Id be happy to send a few seeds of each to try next year.
Oldhenlikesdogs pretty much nailed it. The main reason for pruning is to increase airflow and to prevent contamination of soil-born pathogens from splashing onto your plants and leaves. As you can see in the above picture i prune heavily and eliminate most of the long vines that touch the...
Thats she does!!! I also got a Wellie from her and she is beautiful. A talkative gal, but lays a very nice speckled egg. Very happy with the birds I got from her.
Thanks again @Happy Chooks !
Trisha your Barnies are gorgeous. I just recently got a blue laced Rooster from Happy Chooks and would love to add a blue hen in the future. He is quite the gentleman to his ladies and gorgeous in his own right. If only you weren't so far, perhaps I will be ready for hatching eggs come springtime!
You would certainly know better than I and I wouldn't doubt it one bit. I was only reffering to my experiences with my hen and "onry" is the word I would use, didnt mean aggressive. Hogging the treats sometimes, "walk-by pecks" at the young-ins. Things of that nature. I know the other birds I...
She certainly has her work cut out for her, and she still manages to fit in her own projects. Pretty impressive indeed. Her bredas are beautiful. I have to admit though, im not the biggest fan of feathered shanks. My marans gets a pass because she does lay a very pretty egg. I would also agree...
