Just Getting Started.
I retired in May this year, 2009, and decided to try out a new hobby. Chickens.
This may be a slow work in progress because I have little to no experience with construction and I'm pretty much on my own to do it.
I started out with a pen that I used to use for Buddy, the...
I have two new hens in my small flock. I'm just not sure what they are. Rhode Island Reds maybe?
And I must say... it's not easy getting a good picture of a chicken. I've been photographing birds for a number of years and, for me, chickens are hands down one of the most challenging bird to...
I haven't seen an egg since the spring and I'm about to make a BIG pot of stew. I started out with 3 hens (2 delawares and a white rock) The 2 delawares gave me lots of eggs for quite a while until they went into a molt for about 5 months. The white rock has given me many headaches, but about...
The young chicks (5 weeks old) escaped from their pen today and got in with the older hens. I'm not sure how long they were together but everybody seemed to be getting along when I came along. The hens were slightly aggressive toward the young'ns but the chicks seemed to know to stay out of...
Also, I can see in the last one, with the dark marking between the shoulders, being a cockerel, but what are you seeing in the the other two possible cockerels?
This is Biscuit, Omlet, and Noodle. I got them from a fellow who breeds show birds.
Trying to figure out what I have here...
This one is Dumpling. I'm not sure that this one is even a Delaware. It's about 5 days older than the others.
I'm afraid I don't understand your setup, Roslyn. I have my waterer sitting on a 1 inch high block of wood and the chicks just kick the the shavings onto it and then into the water. Maybe I need to see a photo.
Everybody is home safe and sound. I even have names for them already.
Dumpling is the original chick and the three new ones are Biscuit, Omlet, and Noodle.
