    June 2020 Hatch Raise along

It's been a few years since I've had chickens. I have a surprise box from Cackle Hatchery coming tomorrow or Saturday. I figured it would be fun for anyone hatching or buying chicks hatched in June of 2020 to grow out our chicks together. My chicks will be a mixed flock, with possibly some ducks...

    Day 21

It's day 21 with my RIR eggs. I set 15, 11 made it to day 16. 10 to lockdown. Today I have been on pins and needles, just 1 sign they are ok, is all I need. At 12:23 I noticed I had my first pip. Yay, wrong end. Now I'm scared. There is no way my chickens is breathing through the hole. The...

    Strange behavior?

This afternoon I was enjoying a cup of coffee, watching my chickens devour their head of cabbage. After eating 3/4 of it they got their bellies full and started wandering around the run. A few were lying around, Johnny Mack was doing his little dance and mating with a few of the girls. It was...

    18 weeks

My beautiful birds are 18 weeks old, as much as some of them look more than ready to lay, nothing. The ones that were sqatting are no longer doing so. I'm so impatient lately. This is going to be the death of me. I can feel it. [/IMG]

Just 1 last thing, and it didn't happen.

Ok,where do I start? Beginning, I guess. Four years ago I left my husband. I had no intention on getting a divorce because I had no intention on getting remarried. Well, all that would soon change. 14 months ago I met a wonderful man. After a few months of dating he asked me to marry him. I...

    Black spots on comb.

I noticed a few days ago that my rooster had a few black dots on one side of his comb. Today I managed to get a pic. Is this normal or what?

    Ok?

I have hatchery RIR. 16 sweet girls and 1 handsome rooster. They all just turned 14 weeks old, either Sunday or Monday. I have a 2 girls who have redder combs and faces than the rest. However when I went out to freshen their water at 11, one of my girls who is still very pale and pink was...

    It's HOT!

Currently it is 93 with a heat index of 107. My 11 week olds have been making a lot of noise because they didn't get theit lunch time grazing period. So I figured, why not? They are regretting their decision. Only 3 of 17 came out and they stayed very close to the coop.

    Advice needed!

My chick's will be 8 week old tomorrow. Every afternoon I let them out to free range. I also have a boxer almost 7 months old. For the past week they have enjoyed the yard together. Well this afternoon my dog was lying in the grass and two of the chick's snuck up on him and pecked him right on...

Ugh. I guess I didn't get chickens soon enough.

I've wanted chickens for a long while. I bought my chickens before I knew about the sick chickens getting culled in factories. I just wanted the joys of chickens in my yard. Well my girls will be laying around October, I hope. Every time I run out of eggs I just think, soon I won't have this...

    Hatched May 18th

Hi, I had chickens as a young girl. I always wanted to raise them as an adult. As a child we had white leghorns. I remember my little 3toe she was born missing a toe on each foot, she was the first chicken I butchered I was 4 and didn't realize I had eaten her for dinner for a few more years...
