This is my first time raising chickens. I have seven hens. Barr Rock, Buff, RIR, 3 Isa Brown's and a Blackstar. Only the Blackstar and one Isa are laying. I am thrilled. My husband grew up with chickens and is a little more informed about them. But I have been sharing with him and he said these...
Can anyone tell me how to prepare hard boiled eggs that don't tear off the egg with the shell? I made deviled eggs with mine and they didn't peel good at all. I think I remember my Grandma saying to put some vinegar in the water and that will make eggs the eggs shell easier. Help someone I don't...
My Yellow Orp laid her first egg today, even though her comb is small, it hasn't grown at all since June when I got her and she was 10 weeks then. But she sat on the nest today and had a nice little egg. I have one more to go a RIR whose comb has gotten really big. She likes to sit in the box...
I am seeing an increase, but I have a light on from 3:00 am to 5:00 pm. Out of my 7 pullets, 5 are laying. In fact one of my girls, a Isa Brown laid such a big egg today, I was afraid she was going to strain something and guess what she laid a double yoker!!!!
Hi everyone, with the cold weather here last week I really worried about my chicken run which is about 10 feet long. So I had my husband buy me a piece of that 1 1/2 pink insulation board and had him put it up around the side of my coop. Well my girls decided to peak in it and had one piece...
one of my Isa Brown's just started laying on Thursday, she was born in April and I was worried too. My Black Star who had been molting had not laid in about three months and the Isa Brown got up in the nesting box with Black Star and they hawed and hemmed and I had two eggs. Now if Isa Brown's...
Hi I put a light in my coop and within a week my Isa Brown started laying again. My other girls are younger and haven't laid yet. My Black Star has been in moult and hasn't laid in about 2 months. I got her full grown and she may have been old and I am debating whether or not to cull her.

This Sunday I put a light in my chicken coop, I have a timer on it, it turns on at 5:00 am and goes out at 7pm. I hope that my girls will start laying again. I too have had to buy eggs, which I don't like.
I think one of my girls has just started laying. She is laying in the hay at the bottom of the coop and I have found two eggs, one yesterday covered with poop and today one that had a very thing shell, it looked like it it had been painted and the paint had started to bubble off. What is that...

I am having the same problem, my 19 week old pullets, (RIR, IB and BO) are not roosting but are sleeping in the nesting boxes and pooping in the boxes, it is quite a mess. What are some suggestions and do I just ignore and clean out the nesting boxes every day?
Also I think one of my...
I was at walmart yesterday and looking in the reduced isle and I saw a pack of the little girl baby socks and I picked them up to buy them, only a dollar to make sock roses with for the diaper cake, and my daughter came and said why don't you wait until we find out if its a boy or a girl. I...

My dogs can chew them up just fine. Perhaps you just aren't motivated enough.
I told my daughter I was making one for her shower and she looked so strange and said who would want to eat a diaper cake? Aren't we going to have a real one? LOL
those are adorable! We have only little boys at my house, that is way to girlie for them. LOL. That is why I am hoping my daughter has a baby girl, so that I can really make a girly girl out of her!
