Rescue Buff with loose stool and a limp . . .

About three weeks ago I agreed to take in two rescue chicks from a country farm whose flock had been decimated by predators. They are the lone survivors and are now sequestered city-dwellers with me. I have an established flock of four who are happy and healthy and I really don't want to bring...

Peahen showed up in our yard - now what?

Well, she's still around and has gotten much braver with us and our resident flock. This weekend she even dared to share the handful of dried meal worms that I tossed out to them. I appreciate the feedback given by all!

How much garlic/onion should be added per gallon of water?

Peahen showed up in our yard - now what?

About two weeks ago a peahen showed up in our yard and has been there ever since. My guess is that the sound of our chickens drew her in. For those experience peafowl owners out there, I have a few questions: Is feeding her the same thing that I feed my chickens appropriate? Do your peafowl...

Potential health issues with rescued hens?

I appreciate the feedback. Bathed the ladies last night to loosen their leg scales before applying Vet RX and Bag Balm. During that process I discovered that the Buff has a bad case of lice - found nits all around her vent feathers. That likely means that both have lice and/or mites. So . ...

    Barred rock hen question

Looks like a lady to me. My barred rock hen has a pretty big comb as well.

Potential health issues with rescued hens?

A friend had the majority of her flock, which lived in the country with little daily care, decimated by predators. She asked if I'd take in her two remaining ladies - a buff orpington and a leghorn - and being the sucker for critters that I am I said "yes". I have a small flock of 4 backyard...

    Is she a he??

Looks like "she" is developing saddle feathers, which will make for an awfully pretty "he". Just my two cents . . .

Amazing - you thought of everything. I am super impressed with your shingles and the fact that you got all of your materials into your small car! We too, were big box store groupies when we built ours. Was a fun project and it seems that yours was as well. Kudos to you. I'm sure you've got...

Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

So, the general consensus of an earlier BYC post was that my Piper is a boy and not the girl she was supposed to be. Here are more recent pictures - still no crowing - what says the group? S/he is approximately 14 week old now . . . Thanks for the feedback.

So nice! Seems to be a very functional design - and you nailed the "looking good" part as well.

    South Carolina

My brother and his wife are currently in a rental near downtown Greenville. They just purchased a home and will be moving in December/January. Their yard is fenced but there is no coop. I doubt that the owner would have a problem with you putting one there if you want to. Private message me...

Poop board convert *warning-graphic/gross poop pictures*

Thanks for the positive feedback. Before putting this together I did research on both round and flat roost designs and it seemed to me that round won out since it mimics the natural form of a tree branch more so than a 2x4 does. I read that due to the construction of their feet/legs/tendons...

Poop board convert *warning-graphic/gross poop pictures*

You can see my roosts - all one level and above a tray which holds a bag of Sweet PDZ. I scoop it about once every-other day with a kitty litter scooper and it takes me all of 5 minutes. Sometimes they miss the tray and poop around the edges, but it's easily scraped up with a spackling scraper...
