They were passable for breeders but not the top of the bunch though. They were such good broodies and I'm sick about losing them. Fortunately I still have the best ones in the main coop also have some bantams setting on more so barring any more disasters I should be able to progress.
Well so much for my F6's. I had a dog attack this week and tore into my two chick coops and killed the 2 hens and 8 chicks. I have one more hen setting so hopefully in a couple weeks I'll have better luck.
My F6's are hatching this week. I culled about 10 out my flock of 21 and got 2 usable roo's. 3 of the hens show the best promise so they will continue the line.
Some of my babies I acquired from finfur, these pics are a couple weeks old so I'll try to post more recent ones soon. These guys have the best personalities of any breed I've raised so far.
She looks great Cyn. Mine are still looking really good too. My second generation is coming along nicely. I should have 10 more pullets this year. Everybody raves about how nice they look compared to the hatchery lines.
Snakes have been a big problem for me this year. I've already dealt with 3 black snakes. Two relocated a few miles away and one had to meet the 410 shotgun. He had already swallowed 2 of my day old chicks and there wasn't any way to capture him without escaping into the woods and he would...
Common black snake. Usually I leave them alone because they'll eat the poisoness ones. But this one was shot on sight. I won't tolerate anything preying on my birds. Momma is back on eggs. Hopefully she'll have better luck this time around.
My bantam buff brahma hen just hatched 2 chicks yesterday. I moved them to a broody pen but the next day then the following day I found a snake outside the pen and both chicks were gone. Momma hen stays on the nest in spite of the chicks being gone. What's the best course of action. Give...
