    bare bumb orpington

My buff and black austrolorp are doing the same thing. Did for a month or so, now feathers are coming back. My buff has been broody, so I was guessing she was pulling them out for the nest. I did change their bedding from small shavings to larger ones, and started giving them more protein hoping...

    Mixing Chics with mature birds.

The chicks will be here the end of March. I planned on having them in my modified dog crate with a heat lamp in a spare room, the kids will love to see them and learn all about them. I'm just not sure on how long they will stay in there, with their size, that I would need to get them out to...

By last summer he figured out he didn't really want that many and as we were talking one day he said if I was interested I could get 6...

    Molting and artificial lighting

I believe a few of our hens are molting. At least that's what it looks like to me. I see no lice or mites, and i don't see any pecking spots where someone is pecking at them. The black Austrolorp has been going through this since late fall. The Buff Orpington started late in November in a few...

    Question on feeding

My granddaughter has some powdered baby formula that she's not using anymore. I was wondering if it could be added to the chicken feed? Was just a thought before we threw it out.
