    Vaccinations esp salmonella?

I have had chickens twice in my lifetime. I bought them from feedstore so I know the chicken had some vaccinations because they came from a large hatchery. My own when they hatch, I just enjoy the chicks. My son has an allergy to duck eggs and as I was researching the likelihood and...

    Duck hatching

The membrane softened from the warm moist paper towel and one was out at 2:30 this morning but had knocked off the seconds wrap so I wrapped the second again loosely with warm wet paper towel and it was out when I woke up at 5:30 this morning. So they are out and okay. I guess last 3 aren't...

    Duck hatching

Still not doing anything at 12 hours after. It seems the inner membrane may be drying out so I put warm moist paper towel around the worst one.

    Duck hatching

I guess today is only day 29 but the others are healthy and were early. My last batch hatched early as well.

    Duck hatching

Six hours have passed since the assistance. They are both alive, little duck bills poking out of the holes breathing. I am guessing the last 3 eggs are dead. There is a large dark mass inside but I hear no squeaking inside or pecking.

    Duck hatching

I have had 4 of 9 that all had good development hatch. That was Friday/Saturday. Sunday I checked the rest and two of them I heard chirping inside the egg so I left them another 12 hours and still nothing. One had pipped (I know ducks can be so slow to hatch) but it wasn't progressing so I...

    Goose hatching duck eggs?

Okay I will leave them with her :) There are just so many eggs under her. Should I remove a few to lessen chance of breakage? I have never had a broody bird so I don't know how this whole letting them take care of it works

    Goose hatching duck eggs?

So the goose did finally go broody. Has 20-30 eggs rolling around in the coop but she was sitting on one best the majority of the day. She gets off for what I feel is too long but there are 3 eggs developing. I have 2 just hatched ducklings still in the brooder. Can I switch them out? Can I...

    Hatchlings

I incubated ducks. I have so far 2 that have hatched. Still in the bator now. I have a broody goose. She has been sitting on duck eggs. She gets off a lot and roams. Even stopped covering them to keep them warm. But is on it the majority of the day. I checked 3 out of guessing 20 or so are...

I opened the bator during lockdown...

If I can do it, anybody can. I had 5/6 hatch and they are all doing well. The first hatched on Monday and the last hatched with a lot of help on Friday.

I opened the bator during lockdown...

It seems that you all were right! I worried prematurely and unnecessarily. 3 are out with a 4th well on its way. I see a possible pip on a 5th egg. Nothing on the 6th and last egg. It is day 28. I'm happy with 4 out of 6. It would be awesome if that 5th one is really on its way, too!

I opened the bator during lockdown...

This is day 27. It was moving. Now it is snoozing. I did just pull a tiny, tiny square of shell off that one, just to know the membrane was open. There is one more pipped. Looks like 2 aren't pipped or moving.

I opened the bator during lockdown...

I don't know if you can see well enough or not, but it looks like some yolk remains in the shell he just kicked out of.

I opened the bator during lockdown...

Thank you! I put warm moist paper towel around the two that had started to soften the shell? I read it somewhere this morning. Turns out the one had started (finally) to get a bigger hole and I saw movement on both that had pipped. Thanks! Monitoring air cells and spritzing with water but...

I opened the bator during lockdown...

Okay so I don't follow every rule in the book. Mainly because you all are right, Broody's didn't read the hatching book. I used only the included hygrometer and I think it said it wasn't accurate below 60%. I kept humidity mostly around 50-60 then filled all channels at lockdown but one was out...

    Hatching Perkins first time

I don't know exactly the time they pipped. The first one was zipped before I even knew it. I got up and thought I heard a tapping, then a bit later checked and saw that the one was almost free completely. The two that I can see a slight Chopin the egg from inside have done nothing for almost 24...

I opened the bator during lockdown...

The humidity is back up to about 70% according to the included hygrometer. Didn't take long for it to get back up. Thanks! I will try not to worry...I don't want this one to be a lone hatchling out of possible 6 ;)

I opened the bator during lockdown...

Also I set these on feb 17 at 4 pm. Day 1 is the next day, right? So today is day 26 or I actually count the day I set as day 1 and today is day 27? They are pekin/runner mix eggs.

I opened the bator during lockdown...

The one hatched duckling was walking on the plastic sheet/thermometer. So I took it out quickly. 5 min later I opened it again and shoved that back inside because I realized it is how the temp is regulated. Opened it twice more quickly to add water since I had humidity loss during the other...
