Bishop's eye is fine now! I took your recommendation and applied a warm cloth to it to moisten the scab, and then I applied a triple antiobiotic ointment. Two days later, all better. The eyeball is completely exposed, free of any debris, as far as I can tell. The skin around her eye appears...
I've dealt with rats, mites, and I dread to know what's next. I still love my chickens, they are wonderful. My neighbors love when my golden brown-ish black Easter Egger and one of my Rhode Island Reds hop over the 6 foot fence to forage in their backyard. The other Girls call out to them...
The mites came from four hens I purchased from someone off Craigslist. I did not quarantine them like I should have. The sellers were pleasant people, but I'll never buy grown hens again.
We have a Snap n' Lock coop which is all plastic, except for the roosting bars. This morning we scrubbed it doen with soapy water with a little bleach. I then dusted each pullet under the wings, back of the neck and vent area with a garden powder from TSC. I also dusted the coop as best I...
Thank you guys for all the help and suggestions! This is quite a stressful situation to deal with. I have 17 pullets to treat this weekend, and a coop to scrub scrub scrub. Truly thankful for this group!
My pullet, Bunny, has something going on with her eye. I just noticed it today. She seems to be getting around fine with one eye. Is this an illness or an injury? I am a little stressed right now dealing with the red mite issue and now this. Ugh! What are your thouggts as far as treatment?
Here's what I think. We normally suspect that if we ever made contact with aliens, it will not be a friendly meeting. This movie ends with a completely different perspective. The alien mentioned something about them needing help in 3,000 years, so they reached out to us and gave us a gift of...
I have a mixed flock of 17 hens. In the last two weeks, I have caught one of the hens, a RIR, mount a Cinnamon Queen. It appears to always be the same CQ that she mounts. Could the RIR possibly be a rooster?? She looks like a hen to me, I have two RIR and they look identical.
Thank you for the feedback! I just discovered what I believe to be red mites today crawling on a few of the eggs sitting in nesting boxes. They are extremely tiny black specks that move. I will stop by TSC for the Permethrin.
