Does anyone know of good niacin and biotin supplements for ducks? Everything I've found is for horses.

    Injured legs and problem bonding

Hello, I have a Pekin that just started limping and I believe it to be arthritis. It wasn't too bad over the summer but now that it's getting colder, she's having more issue with it. I bought the cosamin ds to try (not sure if it's the same or not). How much did you give your drake and how did...

Sand as substrate in duck coop

Has anyone had issues with the sand when it's hot out and burning the ducks feet? Sand sounds like the solution I need. I currently have rubber paverstones down and I use a metal paint scraper to scoop the poo every few days. It's not to bad when it's hot and stuff can dry out quickly but...

    Duck lost companion

Here's the new baby. I haven't decided on a name yet but she loves her pool and I took her out to dig for worms yesterday. We've started constructing the new enclosure so they're living inthe basement until we get it finished. She's still very skittish but is getting better and better...

    Duck lost companion

I still miss my baby very much and so does Freckles. Thanks to the help of Miss Lydia, OhZark Biddies and her brother and sister, we have a new addition. She is a gorgeous Swedish blue and she did great on the 90 mile car ride home. She loves her pool (she even sleeps in it) and loves...

    Duck lost companion

Thank you and I'm looking. She's being spoiled more than usual right now and she's usually the distant one but she didn't leave my side last night. Yes, she slept in my cat's bed next to my bed on the floor and I have to hang my hand off the bed so she could touch it. I know it nature's way...

    calling any one from missouri

Hello fellow Missourians. Does anyone have any suggestions of where I might find an adult female duck as a new companion for the one I have. She is a 4 year old pekin female and a raccoon killed her "sister" last night. I know the farm/feed stores usually do duck/chick days but I'm not sure...

    Duck lost companion

Nothing against the males but a female is my first preference. I've been looking around to see if anyone has a female that needs to be new home, or that was rescued, before getting babies, just to give it a second chance.

    Duck lost companion

I found 3 males that are 4 months old at our humane society ranch but then I feel bad not taking all of them :(. I could become an animal hoarder very quickly. I should've said yes when my husband offered having a small farm for all the animals.

    Duck lost companion

This may be a dumb question and I just can't brain today ... do I have to worry about interspecies breeding if I end up getting a male of a different kind? I know birds do that and usually it's female mate choice in birds, I just want to make sure so I don't end up with babies all over the place.

    Duck lost companion

Thank you all for your condolences. I feel worse that I couldn't protect her or save her. The remaining female is going to be staying inside for a while. #1: the predator will definitely be back and #2: I can't leave her alone, literally and I can't justify it in my mind, not until I find a new...

    Duck lost companion

One of my two ducks was killed this evening by a raccoon that pinned it down. I'm at a loss with what to do with my other duck. I don't want to get rid of her but everything I've read suggests that I get another duck for her. I don't even know where to begin finding an adult female pekin duck...

    Egg bound with egg membrane

It's possible that the fowl pox is causing the binding. Since it's a viral infection, it can be spread to other fowl around her. If her eye looks goopy or the feathers around it look wet, she probably also has a respiratory infection. As for feeding her, you can try scrambled or boiled eggs...

    Egg bound with egg membrane

Is her vent dry on the inside? The soaking in some warm water and epsom salt should help too. (As gross as it sounds) put a bit of ky on your finger and run it around the outside and inside of the vent to make sure it's not too dry. If it is dry, it can lead to a prolapsed vent, meaning the...

    The Quack Shack

I'm beginning to find that bird owners are a different breed of people :lau (it's supposed to be punny). Anyhoo, I ended up with 2 female pekins when they were 2 weeks old and I never in a million years thought I would be a duck owner. I love them and couldn't imagine parting with them...

How do I convince my ducks I'm friendly!?

Aside from the treats, which will score you some ducky points, just spend some time with them. I have 2 female pekins, I will let me approach her and pick her up without running away and the other is a bit more skittish. I usually try to pick her up without chasing her too much or cornering...
