14 week old hen laid egg!! Have I been tricked????

Hi there. I'm new to hen keeping so I find this site brilliant for answers. I found an egg (small) in the hens box. My hen is 14 weeks old, no older, as I raised them from one week old. I thought it might be another 6 or 8 weeks before it laid its first egg. At the moment I have one hen and...

Is this hen or roo, please. Gender?

Hi. I've raised this bird from a 1 week old chick and I'm completely new to chicken keeping though now thoroughly addicted! Anyway, this is my adopted bird, now at 12 weeks. Any ideas if it is a rooster or hen? Someone suggested it's a white leghorn. Would you agree on this? Thanks v.much...

Gender of black one please and confirmation that yellow is rooster!!!

Most of you experts seemed to agree that my 5-6 week old yellow chick is a rooster but the black one you disagreed about! Someone said they'd take a look when a few more feathers developed, which they have, hence the updated pics. The black one (same age) seems much more timid than the yellow...

5 week chicks - can I clip wings yet?

Chicks have free run of the garden, hedge is about 3ft, and I've noticed they've started to fly a bit. When can I clip wing? I've found instructions how to clip but just not WHEN to clip. Thank you.

4 week old chicks living in greenhouse - is it too cold for them?

Quote: No they run about like mad during day. They go in box and huddle up when it starts to get dark. They are all shut up now and asleep.

4 week old chicks living in greenhouse - is it too cold for them?

Quote: Well they huddle up together in a very thick cardboard box. It's this box that is filled with shredded paper. They've always been outside and I'm reluctant to start bringing them indoors as I don't want too much of a heat change (we have central heating on in UK at moment).

Rooster or hen? Pictures included - thank you!!!!

Quote: No idea what kind they are. Someone said black one may be a Maran pullet as its tail feathers are straight and tall. I am a novice and acquired these 3 weeks ago. They're living in the greenhouse at the moment. Thanks for help.

Rooster or hen? Pics included, thank you!!

We acquired these at one week old , they are now about four weeks (Oct 6th) and we're complete beginners. I've looked at other forum pics and think that perhaps Sweep is rooster due to curled tail feathers and slight pink comb, Sweep being pullet due to erect tail feathers. I'd be grateful if...
