I live in mesa, AZ. This was my first summer with the chickens, so as it got hotter I made adjustments. Here are some of the things I did...
-small fan inside the coop to get air moving
-moved coop to the other side of our yard- so it would be in the sun in the morning- instead of the afternoon...
Barred rock: Oreo
amerucana: Pickett
buff Orpington: Buffy
red sexlinked: Mable
amerucana: Sable
* I lost everyone exept Buffy on January 2nd due to arizona's extreme heat
Ive heard a lot about clipping wings and my friend told me that clipping only works for certain breeds. Is this true?
I have a buff orp, EE, BR, and amerucana and sounds like my next batch will be those and a couple of red sex-linked...
I live in a residential area and am wondering what the good people of BYC think the best chicken breed is. I am looking for breeds known to....
- lay lots of eggs
- have a loving personality (also kid-friendly)
- does not fly much
- is QUIET!!!
NOTE: I know that how a chicken behaves...
I was scared that my chicks would touch the light too! They figured out that it was hot after a while. I hung the light using lots of zip ties. hope your experience with chicks is a good one
I have a week old BR with watery to pudding like poo. It is very dark (color of chocolate) and when she does her "business" she makes a farting sound. ! what should I do? Is there a diagnosis? any help would be great!
my week old buff orp does her little flying thing as like a streching kind of thing. I am a little afraid of her getting out, so I have to close the door of the room there in just in case. better to have one loose in a room than the whole house.
