Hi all,
Recently I spotted some white bumps/spots on my 2 year old silkie bantam rooster’s face, (sort of near the eye) and they haven’t gone away. They don’t seem to be troubling him, can anyone tell me what is going on?

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!! Especially those in Aus ;) because I love Bunnings :p I’ll do my best to combat them, and yes I do think they’re mites rather than lice. Unfortunately my chooks come into contact with pigeons roaming the run and sometimes eating their food! Since you’ve all been so helpful...
Hi there, first of all this isn’t really an emergency but I just want some thoughts...
I have silkies and sometimes they get mites/lice. They don’t get it too often to be super worried about, and I always dust them and the nests when it happens. Today we came home from holidays (a neighbor had...
Okay, thanks! Hope this picture is okay, you can see the light coloured nail against a silvery nail. And yes, I need to trim them. And suggestions for how Miffy can keep his nails a bit shorter for longer?
Hi there, quick question - I have a really old budgie called Miffy. (He is a dark-ish blue colour with black and white wings btw) Today I noticed all his nails are a silvery colour but one of his back ones on the right foot is white-ish? Never noticed this before although it’s possible it’s...
Okay, so we took him to the vet.
The vet diagnosed tracheal mucus and perscribed antibiotics and antifungal (for 9 days). The vet gave him a vitamin a shot too. Hopefully these will fix him!
It was very hard to see down his throat, so i couldn’t see anything. His breathing and crow are still strange. We’ve been googling and i think we have come to the conclusion to go to a vet -
Hi everyone, (this was initially in the behaviours thread but I’ve moved over to here because I’m concerned)
I have a silkie bantam rooster about 1 year old who’s always had a really nice crow.
Recently, it went bad, and sounds more like a strangled cry.
The other day I had a look at him and I...
So yesterday and today i noticed an extremely faint whistle of sorts in his breathing - does he have a cold or something? Maybe this is related to his crow. He does not look sick in the slightest, he’s acting like a completely normal chook.
Edit: His crow can hardly be considered a crow now...
He’s always had a good crow, and it wasn’t quite right at the start but soon he got it right. it’s just recently (like in the last week or so) it went downhill! I suppose he’s not that old yet and it might change, but I hope it goes back to normal because it was really nice.
Hi there,
My rooster’s always had a really nice crow.
Recently he’s started crowing really weirdly. It’s quieter (sort of) and it seems to sort of die at the end, it never really goes anywhere and it just overall weird.
He’s got water and isn’t sick (though it sounds like he’s got a sore...
Hi again! Bit of an update on Miffy - he has a friend again! This is his third cage-mate, her name (yes, HER for once!) is Violet. She was being naughty in the avairy so dad brought her in. I think they're happy and bonding well...though Violet likes to push the biggest things in the cage...
Yes, our rooster we introduced to the other two (he's a bit younger). Got picked on by one, liked by the other. Eventually they all settled down and everything was fine, though I still don't think they know who's boss, hen or rooster! Wish they thought it was me .
I recommend quarantine...
