She sent me eggs and I hatched 5 beautiful birds! 2 roosters 3 hens! I LOVE them they are absolutely the sweetest chickens I’ve ever raised!
I’ll post new pics soon!
Then how are mine preserved? They are not falling apart and are 100% dried out? The instructions are online, so I guess they are wrong? Dunno but it seemed to work for us.
Yeah I have a squirrel skull and a bird skull we found, oh and a full turtle shell we found as well! I keep all those things and they are around my fountain outside on my deck... and in flower pots *shrug* I like them what can I say, I didn’t kill the turtle or the others I just found them.
There is nothing to scrape off it just dries right up. Takes about a month in a cool dry area inside a box. It’s not really traditional “taxidermy” it’s more just preserving a wing. *shrug*
Yes mine dried just fine, did not smell, and no bugs. It’s an old method used by native Americans as far as I know. And no there is hardly any meat at all to scrape off the bones so really no point.
I sure will absolutely! It’s kinda slow going cause I am collecting like the unique eggs but I’ll prob just have to choose some I like that have pretty speckled patterns to fill it out, and maybe a few more wings. I was going to hang it too, I’ll prob use one that is “aged” looking kinda...
I saw some really cool shadow boxes online when you google quail egg shadow box or whatever and so I’ve been saving “unique” eggs like I have some 17-19g quail eggs, a couple that are round like marbles, some that I just like the color etc.
Then I started thinking um... as much as I love my...
One of my very young hens (born in March 2019) has been laying 18-19g eggs and I bet since they all seem to get bigger over time hers will too. All of them lay pretty decent size eggs, it’s a mixed pen of colors from silver to red range and pearl along with others.
I incubated 2 of the first...
Well done!!! ❤️❤️❤️
We got them too in S.C. but not as bad here it sounds much worse down there :(
I was bitten several times this weekend so darn annoying!!!!!!!!! And it HURTS! I hate what it’s done to all our birds! :(
If there is then I would bet that is what I had and they were not very bright eyes but the whites were blood shot and they were lethargic and one was cross eyed lol.. when I did the “dressing out” the skin was the brightest I have EVER seen even when I dressed out my Texas A&Ms the skin was not...
How obvious is it in person? I can see it here - and I have seen baby pics and it was SUPER obvious, but see I have been hatching this season since March now and I’ve hatched a lot of different batches some my own some purchased from other breeders, I had a few where I thought I saw glints of...
Maybe it is because they are in my home office, and I work here all day, and my 13 year old does home school in here and then also my husband after work and my little one talks to them and picks them up (when they are older I’m afraid he will drop tiny chicks he is almost 8 but still)
So they...
Talking about watering? For the first night I use bottle caps. Lol. Water bottle caps or whatever, just little plastic caps, since they are not moving around really good until the next day they do that low waddle crawl to the water in the caps. It spills a bit but it’s not much and dries super...
Yeah I don’t have a coop big enough to hold both the kids yet!
Jk of course don’t anyone get mad at me, they have bunk beds - inside the house! (For now)
Heyo!
Just put my Schofield Silvers from KC on lock last night. Excited about that. 22 out of 24 developed on these shipped eggs, and they are gorgeous. Lots of rocking, rolling, and wiggling.
You ever hear them knock from inside the shell? I swear one is knocking in there... maybe I’m going...
Now when they get older if you have similar looking ones that can’t be visually sexed if you see one crow (or lay an egg) you could band it’s leg if you definitely want to remember and have some that look alike.
I use a zip tie. You can also buy colored small size zip ties. It’s like banding a...
