Weeeelllllllll I have not seen the weather in the last few days. I will have to use my calibrated sweat-o-meter. Yesterday my shirt was saying it was about 174 degrees and the cloud cover today is reading about 173. I might as well go back to IRAQ with this kind of weather. At least I get...

I will never think of a quail eating another
I will post the pictures later may be you guys will get a better idea
Sometimes they don't wait for a dead quail to peck and eat quail. Good thing is that if you catch them early nuf they will heal from quite a beating.
We went to the dollar store and bought about 6 of the aluminum throw away roasting pans for dirt baths. Easy to clean and have lasted for a couple months and going strong. Plus if you have a less than big enough door (lesson learned) they will fold up and unfold after you get them in the cage...
aprophet, LOL I ran out of jack mac last season and threw some cheese puffs in one of my live traps and ended up with Mr Stinky! I hit the population HARD around the house last season and have not smelled once this summer at all.
Did catch a coon last night by my quail pen!

a bobcat is a very effecent killer, at the same time they are lazy if they find a easy meal.. If they are not held up with kits they usually have a pretty good range. BUT they will be back thru if the dogs did not get their attention. Having multiple dogs will be a great help for...
Trapper here. Try bacon grease and a little grape jelly. Never cought a cat on jelly. I know grey fox go batty over bacon grease and the reds will come to. Keep trying and if the live trap is big enough it will eventually snoop around in there. Would be alot faster if you got the word out...
I am not the most politically correct person (Disclaimer)
If you are going to rehome a cat make sure you go a ways away from the house. If you let it loose out in the country so some "farmer can adopt it" it will probably starve or turn ferrel and be a much bigger problem. If you take it to a...
I love it. I always say go big or stay home. LOL
I am no big quail raiser but I would shoot for about a 2x8 grow out cage to get you through the cull stage. As far as a brooder I would think about 2x3 would be sufficient. If you get a 50% hatch you should be pretty good.More than that and...
LOL This morning I went to clean out the brooder with 4 week old coturnix we hatched and one did the same thing. it cocked thet tiny head over and sat and watched. So cute.
Well I got a call from Dr. B. at the state facility yesterday and the new birds are positive on the pullorum and also had Micoplasm Galiseptica, (Battlestar Galactica?) Looks like I will be starting over with my big birds.
I will NEVER buy from anyone that is not NPIP. Hard lessons are...
She took three of the birds to test. They will culture the organs at their lab and if it comes up positive there they will send samples off up north somewhere for further tests.
Louisiana is a voluntary test state and ALOT of people don't volunteer. She helped me out with where not to look...
Nice lady came out Monday and did the NPIP test. about half of our birds were positive. We have the clean ones in a new penaway from the others. She is coming back in two weeks to re-check.
My question is.......we will be dispatching all positive birds and starting over with that half of...
Good ideas. I am building a 30x30 pen now and am going to put up some small covers for overhead protection. Thanks for the good ideas.
Is there a reason they are all low to the ground? Is it less protection if they have more head room?
I also plan to have a jungle gym setup (pallet houses etc) in there for hiding places. I may try to find a different gene pool roo to help him out. My poor little cochin roo can't reach the girls. That is one frustrated short legged roo. LOL. Gonna find him some cochin hens to herd.
