Free range ducks aren't free ranging

Lol, the title says it all. This is my first experience with ducks, I have 10 5 week old ducklings. We've been putting them outside during the day in a temporary enclosure on our lawn. We've been letting them wander while we're home....and they don't really wander. They follow me if I'm outside...

    They're here!

10 beautiful ducklings from Metzer arrived happy and healthy last Wed! These are the first ducklings we've ever had and they are just a kick. Pretty skitzy though, lol. Will they calm down? Their setup is a 2x7 foot browser with the light on one end...they're getting non medicated chick starter...

    A home for the ducks!

So we're just starting to draw the plans for our duck house. We'll be getting ten ducklings in March, and can't wait! So my question is....would it be better to build one long, large duck house, about 10x6, or could we build two smaller ones? I want to make sure they all have enough room, but...

    Duck brooder

Another question for all you lovely people! We ordered our ducklings and they are set to arrive 15 March. What size brooder box should we build for 10 ducklings? All I can find is info on chick brooders, so I thought I would ask on here. Something pretty simple in design, so I would also love...

How old to free range and where to put at night

Sorry for all the questions! We would like to free range our ducks during the day and put them in at night. At what age should we allow all day free range? And does everyone actually close them in their house at night, or just their house/run combo? Thanks!

    Open duck run

Hi! We have been planning on building a duck run that is four feet high, with hot wire ran along the top and bottom of the outside to deter predators such as racoons and foxes. Do you think this is a safe option, or should we cover the entire run with wire mesh? Any suggestions are appreciated!

    Hi from California!

Hi all! I'm brand new at all of this, and am currently in the process of designing our duck barn and run. I'll be ordering my ducklings next month and am excited to begin the process. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions!

    Duck run covers

Hi all! We're in the midst of planning our duck housing, and have a question about the duck run. Do we need to cover it if we have dig proof edging and hot wire top and bottom? The fence will be about four feet. Our ducks will be free range during the day and then will be brought in to their...
