It was a racoon! I caught him coming back for a second helping.

    Identify my predator

It seemed way to big to be a rat to me, I haven't seen any around here before. It could be a possum, but to me it looked like it had a bobbed tail, so maybe a cat? Admittedly my run isnt very well defended, I honestly cant see how anything would reasonably get into the coop though, its about 1...

    Identify my predator

in the first few seconds of the video you can see that there is something getting into my run stealing some of my chicken feed. Its too dark/grainy for me to identify, but maybe those of you with more experience can help. Does anyone know what that is? My best guess is a possum or racoon.

    Forced exhaust for small coop

Do you have a link? Most of those seem at least 10-12 inches deep and I was hoping for something low profile. I'm hoping to not lose any headroom to ducting.

    Forced exhaust for small coop

Hello everyone, I have the Tractor Supply Producer's Pride Defender coop, and from everything Ive been reading on this site, I have determined that the ventilation for this coop is barely adequate. I am considering adding an exhuast fan to the coop so that I dont have to punch too many holes...

Is it time to increase the brooder size?

Hello guys, I have 10 chicks that are 16 days old. They are growing at an alarming rate. That said, is there a rule of thumb on how much space they need in the brooder? I know its too soon to take them outside, but it's starting to seem crowded, at least to me.

    Dust baths

Is there any particular reason to wait? I'm curious what the benefits of waiting are when they seem to want to take dust baths now.

    Dust baths

My baby chicks keep trying to take dust baths in the pine shavings. Do I need to provide something built for the task already? They are 13 days old already.

Can I mix day old chicks, with 2 week old chicks?

Hello BYC community, I have 10 chicks that are 11 days old, but I am thinking about getting 4 more day old baby chicks. Are they young enough to integrate together or should I separate them? Thanks a bunch!

    Anyone use fermented feed?

I tried giving fermented feed alongside regular crumble starter, and my chicks were totally not interested in the stuff. Should I have pulled the regular crumble until they decided to give the FF a try?

For anyone following these little hens youtube's live streaming server went down for a few minutes the other day, and by the time it came back up it considered it a new stream so it created a new link. See below: Also being that it's day 8, I decreased the temperature on the warm side of...

My First Baby Chicks - Live Stream! Hatched 3-22-17 Tips and recommendations welcome

Hi guys! It's day 5 and my chickens are still going strong though, I am having a recurring pasty butt issue. It seems every day I am having to clean 3-4 pasted vents. I read that this can be caused by improper temps in the brooder, so checked temperatures and near the food area the temp is 68...

My First Baby Chicks - Live Stream! Hatched 3-22-17 Tips and recommendations welcome

I was actually considering getting and getting one of those ceramic heaters that fits in a bulb socket so that I can turn out the lights at night and have them sleep properly while still maintaining heat. Is there anything I can put in there to keep them from pecking at each other? That was...

Thanks PD-Riverman. I had a thermometer in there until a few hours ago when one of the chicks pooped on it. the area near the food/water is around 80 degrees and the area directly beneath the lamp is about 95. Is 80 too warm? I will try to make some adjustments. The other thing I was...

Does the post office have to allow you to pick up chicks?

Thanks for all the tips guys, I called them again at 630AM yesterday morning and the guy told me that I could absolutely come pick them up. By 7AM I had them settled into their brooder which is currently a cardboard box from a chest freezer I recently purchased. I'm livestreaming them on...

Does the post office have to allow you to pick up chicks?

Hello, I am getting my first baby chicks delivered tomorrow or friday so I did what many have recommended and called my post office today to let them know they were incoming and to see if they would give me a call to allow me to pick them up early. When I called, the guy who answered the...
