This poor guy can not catch a freakin break!! For the first time in six years the neighbors dog, this happy **** who broke through his electric fence, attacked Floyd and rippped all his feathers from his back! Down to the skin!
Today my husband looks out and sees a FOX tearing at him...
This is April 23rd. I don't think he'll walk like he use to but he is walking a bit better everyday.
His neck looks shorter than before the attack - maybe is just me lol
Floyd is fantastic!! He is out with his girls. we rehomed Jr to a flock of 16 hens so he will be very happy!!
Floyd does walk a little stiff - but he is so happy Funny enough last night was his first night back in his coop - when it got dark he walked up to the house lol Thank you for all...
With all my uncertainly and doubt I got sommuch support here - you have held my hand through the steps needed. We honestly thought we should have culled him after his attack. But just weeks later. LOOK WHO STOOD TODAY!!!! Not the best photos. He was sitting in his sling. He is wobbly and...
Well, he moves those feet but refuses to put them under himself.
On a daily I adjust his sling so his feet are barely touching the ground, to his feet are at the right height if he would just put them under his body
Yesterday I put his sling in a dog crate outside / he liked it. The girls...
He was vaccinated. He can wiggle and grip. He pushes his legs when I take the 'floor' away. I do pick him up often from his sling and hold his body so he has to move and he uses his wings to balance.
Funny you mention a wheelchair, my husband said something about that last night. He asked me...
They can too ch the floor - he sticks them straight out in front of himself. Then he freaks out and wiggles and plops out
We bring him outside and put him in the grass. Hoping he will peck around him. He doesn't he will most be by using his wing to turn his himself.
I've googled but how...
So. Mr Floyd seems to only eat if I spoon feed him. Not sure if he's having an issue eating or he's just being cheeky waiting for me to feed him.
I try to push his feet so he has to push back to help with his muscles. I'm guessing that sitting all day is going to weeken his legs.
He still...
Thank you! We put the other roo is the pen and brought Floyd outside to hang with the girls. He happily made his noises and they hung out with him. One gently pecked at his comb scabs. He is moving himself with his one foot and wings.
We also built him a second sling frame. Sturdier and more...
So based on what you know I'm probably doing everything for him. I worry that I'm doing less or something not correct
Also, is it okay to leave him in his sling all day? I'm home with him and if I'm not I put him in his basket so he'll be safe.
Hello, so Floyd is staring to eat on his own. Beak is healed and his comb and waddles are slowly getting a nice red color. He seems to maybe be seeing out of both eyes, he doesn't cock his head to one side as often
I made a sling and sit him in for a good part of the day. He seems to push or...
Thank you! Never would have thought of a sling. He does grip my fingers when I pick him - that's a good sign. I brought his favorite hen in to visit him lol. He peeked up and I swear after her visit he started pecking at his mash vigorously hahaha. So I slowly eased up on the soupy mash...
I wrote in a couple of previous threads about his injury and eyes.
So, an update and questions -
His eyes are almost open completely. I use warm water and a qtip to wipe the crude off them in the morning One eye stays open all day, the other slowly closes by end of day.
I am still spoon...
Thanks - he is doing better than I expected.
I checked his whole body. Aside from one of his wings, being a little slower to go back into position, his body seems fine.
He will not open his eyes, they are not crusty, cut or swollen. He had them open a little yesterday during the initial...
So happy he made it through the night. He still isn't opening his eyes or willingly drinking/eating. Should I be extra concerned about his eyes?
If he did have a fight with his 'son' would that rooster show signs of fighting? We checked all chickens and none seem like they have a scratch on...
Thanks! We did get Permethrin today. I tried to give him water with the aspirin. Then a little bit ago gave home electrolytes by syringe. His eyes won't open and he stays slumped in his basket ( we have him in a laundry basket in the house ). He does jump up, and fall over, I'm guessing weak...
