Hen badly injured in the face and eyes. What should I do?

I think they're intact but I can't be sure yet. There's nothing new about this hen though. She and the momma who attacked her were given to us at the same time. I've had momma and her chicks separate from the rest of the flock but the excessive wind today must have worked the door open that kept...

lol I don't know why the 4 pics I uploaded with the post didn't attach but I'm trying again.

Hen badly injured in the face and eyes. What should I do?

One of our hens was attacked by our protective mother hen and the injuries to her eyes and face look terrible! This is a first for me and I'm not sure how to approach treatment especially for her eyes. Oh and I should mention she's not docile or tame at all (she was given to us that way), so I...

When should hatched chicks be taken from momma?

Yes she was a very good mom but is hardly approachable and has been that way since she was given to us. She wouldn't let us get near her first two chicks at all so I'm certain the only way we will be able to handle these new peeps will be if we separate them from the get go.

When should hatched chicks be taken from momma?

Good idea!! I will absolutely leave her with 1 or two. She was so good at taking care of her first two chicks! Plus this gives me ta day or two to get the brooder ready as this was a last minute decision. Thank you for your quick reply!

When should hatched chicks be taken from momma?

This is our our hen's second time hatching little peeps for us but this time we want to raise the chicks separate from our hen. The first set of chicks she hatched were raised by her and are healthy and doing very well! She is a great momma hen! The reason we made the decision to raise this set...

Yes! That sounds like a great idea! I do want her to stay with her chicks. She's worked so hard for them!

Bit off more than we could chew

Well...we now have two more little peeps! They seem to be healthy and both are up and walking (or rather hiding under momma). But curious and active no less! What a relief! I'm so proud of our first time momma! I need just a little more advice since our situation isn't so cut and dry. What...

Bit off more than we could chew

Thank you both so much for your replies! I will definitely move them at night once the eggs have hatched. I'm pretty sure I'll leave them with momma and watch nature take its course unless some other issue comes up. Especially since we already disassembled the brooder for the season, lol. I...

Bit off more than we could chew

Thank you so much for all the info! The thing about this hen is she's hardly tame at all. She was given to us as an adult so she's quite skittish. We just got home to find her off her eggs and to our surprise, one of the eggs has started to hatch!! I think I'm not going to move her but have a...

Bit off more than we could chew

Oh and the other two look exactly like they should when I candled them just before I opened the one: almost all chick with a perfect air pocket on the big end. Is it ok to move them with the hen into her own enclosure then since they haven't hatched yet? I'm really going to have to improvise...

Bit off more than we could chew

Ok....wow that long after the roo has been with her then? So this peaks my curiousity about the other 10 eggs she was sitting on before I pulled them. I candled all 14 eggs originally and left 4 because they clearly were developing inside. I put the rest in the fridge in case I learned we could...

Bit off more than we could chew

Hi! We are barely into our first experience raising/keeping chickens and we've already been thrown a curve ball. We live in the Sacramento valley in California and started with one very beautiful jersey giant roo who was given to us. Shortly after his arrival, we were given 2 hens (absolutely no...
