    Buff Orpington, 4 wks

Ah, that's what I'm figuring. He actually belongs to my friend - I'm raising both of our chicks while they need the brooder plate for heat. We're not allowed roosters where we live.

    Buff Orpington, 4 wks

Buff Orpington pullet chick from My Pet Chicken, 4 weeks old today. Comb and wattles are bigger and redder than any of the other chicks, including the other BO in the batch. Legs and body are heavier than the other chicks. I know it's early, but is this a likely cockerel?

    What color ducklings?

    Ah, gotcha

    What color ducklings?

Can males be chocolate? And yes, I believe pied is the coloring I mean. Like my handsome guy here.

    What color ducklings?

I have zero idea how color genetics work for Muscovy ducks. If the parents are both black and white, will all ducklings be black and white? Or are other colors possible? I don't know the color lineage the ducks come from, but I know that there are solid white and brown and white Muscovies on the...

    Muscovy keepers share your pics!

My two new babies! They were supposed to be two girls but I'm very skeptical of the brown one!

    Muscovy sex?

Everyone who guessed drake, you win! I have a drake who just got feathers exceptionally early! Athena lost all other noises except his hiss and I finally resigned myself to the fact that he is in fact a drake. Thanks for all the guesses along the way!

    Muscovy sex?

Thanks for the info! I wrapped it. She's pretty ticked off about it but hopefully it will stay on long enough to help.

    Muscovy sex?

7 weeks, 5 days and so pretty! She/he doesn't keep her left wing tucked in for whatever reason.

    Magnificent Marvelous Muscovies!

6 week muscovy cutie hanging with her 8 week pullet buddy. It's so fun to see them interact. The duckling loves to nibble and groom her two pullet buddies. And UHG look how gross she manages to get her water in only one day! Sigh. At least my plants are thrilled with all the extra waterings...

    Muscovy sex?

6 weeks! Lots of wing feathers growing in. Duckling had wing feather quills by 4 weeks. I'm hoping for a girl. Fingers crossed. I know. I have zero frame of reference to compare to.

    Muscovy sex?

I have a 5 week old Muscovy duckling (5 weeks yesterday) . I'm hoping for a duck so she can just live with my hens, but if it's a drake, I'd like to get him a couple of girlfriends, sooner rather than later, so everyone can integrate easily. Duckling didn't love being the focus of my photo shoot...

    Magnificent Marvelous Muscovies!

Duckling is 5 weeks. Is it going to be a drake? I feel like the answer is yes, but I have no other ducks to compare it to.

@Sidechicks77 hen. A coue of mine have that tail that goes straight up. A rooster will have the feathers that arch over.

They are. Everyone is hanging in ok. I think They're darling! My guess is the grayish fella in the back for your roo. Both of my Easter Eggers had chipmunk markings as chicks.

    Magnificent Marvelous Muscovies!

Wing of my duckling. 30 days old. Guesses on duck vs drake? I have nothing to compare it to. This is my one and only duckling. I hear feathers come in earlier on females, but again, I have nothing to compare it to. And I know it's early. Just a guess for fun?

    Magnificent Marvelous Muscovies!

This cute little duckling is four weeks now! S/he is looking more like a duck and less like a duckling, losing all the yellow duckling fluff!

@SonoranChick Cora is darling! I can't believe she's 7 months old already! @Fishybiz my girls have definitely slowed way down on egg production in the heat. The flock is doing ok. I'm in California visiting family, so Mr. Geranium is taking care of everyone. My muscovy duckling is 4 weeks now...

I lost one of my Buff Orpingtons today. Found her dead in the run this morning. And that was after rescuing one of my Australorps from possible heat stroke yesterday. It's going to be a long, long summer. I've got shade, water, ice, frozen treats, all the things.

    Sick pullet

They have lots of shade and water. I've been putting out a frozen water bottle and frozen corn in ice. Today I put out some terra cotta saucers filled with ice cubes in their favorite shade spots. They won't go into water willingly, but I was thinking of making them a muddy area, because they...
