Thanks for replying! Do I just use plain water? I have plain neosporin, with out the 'caine' and I'll use it, just didn't know if I need anything special to wash her with......?
Mine scratch around in CA Live Oak, Blue Oak and another type of oak that is excaping me, never had any sickness because of it. I wonder about some of the other toxic plants???
Oh no! I'm so sorry she is in such a state! I can definately feel for you, I've had a gal that was that bad off. Honestly, I looked around on here and found a recipe for home euthanasia, in a box with vinegar and baking soda (I think, it was awhile ago). Maybe see what you can find to help...
My sweet girl Maude is all torn open on the back of her neck. I noticed her many of her feathers were missing the other day, but figured it was from the rooster. This afternoon I opened the chickens to let them out and 1 is dead on the floor, and Maude is scalped! The dead one appears to have...
I was hoping for an answer too, as I also have a 'mooch' EE sho hasn't layed an egg yet this year. She is also 1.5 yr old.
As for integrating the pullets with the older girls: sounds like your doing good, giving them lots of space to get away from the meaner older gals. You could always...
Exact same thing happened to one of mine, she was *so* scared of me I couldn't even catch her to look her over good. I left her alone and she healed up just fine. I would have at least sprayed her with blukote so no one else pecked at her, but she was going to break her neck trying to get away...
Oh NO! I'm so sorry Mary! I just lost one of the Marans I got from you (last spring) this past week I think a fox may have got her, as all I found was a pile of feathers, like you mentioned you found. I think a fox would fit through that opening, as they are the size of a cat. I have not...
Oh. my. goodness. Frightful!
I've seen stars once too, I dropped a can of shaving cream right on my toe in the shower, literally saw stars, it hurt so bad.
Thanks to the Lord you didn't get zapped. Phews.
By 'thicker" do you mean like tougher? It doesn't break apart when you break the egg. My Marans eggs are sort of like that too, if that is what you mean!
Fun update! I found her sitting on 15 eggs!!!! I took them from her though because I was afraid she was going to get eaten sitting out there! She is back with the flock doing well.
So does a fox sit out in the forest watching for a moment to pounce? My husband wants to work in the yard on the tractor, figured that would be deterrant enough to let the gals out for while we are out there. I will definately look into electric fence, ASAP!
Thanks!
