I am new to chickens and have some that are seven weeks old. I have read online that chickens will not mess with plants in the nightshade family. We planted 8 tomato plants about a week ago. They have been largely unmolested. My husband said we should put up some netting around the plants to...
The chicks are about 2 weeks old. We got them at TSC and believe them to be out of the assorted reds bin. Not really sure if they were Pullets or Straight Run, although they seem to be feathering out fairly fast. They are all single combs. However, Each of their feathers are slightly...
We bought 15 chicks "straight run" from someone selling them around the area. Right now it is looking like we have 14 boys, but we are crossing our fingers and hoping against hope that another one or two are pullets. We have already started another round. This time we went to TSC and got some...
Oh man. I guess we were kinda holding our breath and crossing our fingers on a couple of them. Everyone of the chicks is slowly revealing itself to be a boy Now we know to stay away from the place that sold of these chicks. "Straight Run" for $1. Thought maybe we would get a lot of Roos...
hey all thanks for viewing/help anyway this is my first time raising chickens. They are all almost 7 weeks old, and I'm really thinking I have 1-3 girls of 15 I'm going to show the pics of ones that I think are potentially the pullets.
First up is Fudgey, a BA which I "Hope" is a she...also...
When our chicks were five weeks old, we played some videos of roosters crowing to see if we could bait one or two of them into crowing. One Golden Laced Wyandotte, which we were crossing are fingers was a female, did the very same thing several times in a row while the video played. It stuck...
We picked up several chicks at TSC today. They had a clearance bin. All the chicks in the clearance bin were red sex links or all white chicks. There was one chick that was out of place. It was the only chicks in the bin that looked like itself. Since it was only 50 cents we decided to keep...
Got it in Hickory NC TSC. There was a huge bin full of them. They all just looked really dirty but otherwise healthy.
edit Im thinking the last one might be a delaware?
And they had silkie chicks. And a 50 cent bin of chicks. The $0.50 bin chicks were filthy but they looked like assorted reds with some Cornish X in there. We bought 10 red chicks, 5 silkies, and 1 mystery chick.
One of the reds. I *think* these are red stars although some have wings...

We are new and have done a lot of research but some things we are just taking them as they come.
Our chicks are almost 5 week old. We had our first crow from an Australorp last night when we turned on the light to check on them. Now we are excited to get more crows. Tonight we noticed that...
If you can check in on them often, just don't feel their tray up to the top. I leave mine about half full, but they are never out completely because I'm always sure to add more. Try it and see if it works
