I went outside this morning and saw that my drake has what looks like an injury on his bill.
I thought maybe he had scraped it on the bottom of the coop where the hardware cloth meets the ground.
But I looked around and didn't see a disturbance.
Could this peeling back be a sign of something else?
Thank you; that is reassuring, but I only have the one coop/run, and bird yard. So they would have to crash together at night. Chickens up high, and duckies on the floor.
That is good to hear that your drakes haven't tried to get up to no good with the chickens.
Right now I'm just trying to see how things go, since I only have the one duck and the drake, sadly. I don't know how flirtatious he is going to be now that he is three years old( I think). The duck is...
I have heard that a drake can breed a chicken to death, but I am curious about what are the actual percentages that this occurs.
I have one drake and down to one duck unfortunately. I had a horrible predator attack that took out three ladies(ducks) a week ago. It was my fault. I thought that I...
Thanks for the link.
Turns out there is a large spiky pit in the fruit, so I decided not to plant that jujube tree in the pen. The fruit flesh is ok though, so I can feed them fruit that has the pit removed.
I've just been busy the last two years, for obvious reasons. I work in the medical...
Does anyone know if ducks can eat jujube fruit?
I'm planning on planting two jujube trees in the duckyard, for shade for the ducks and fruit for me. But These trees will most certainly drop fruit. I aim to do my best to remove the fallen fruit, but I'm sure I won't be able to get them all right...
Does anyone know if lotus is toxic or not for ducks? There is a portion of the run that stays completely muddy, and unlike water lilly, lotus can be grown in just muddy soil instead of floating water. I thought it might be fun and perhaps attract insects for them to eat whilst in their run. And...
Sorry to read that. Do you have a garden? Duck poo-water and poo-straw make the best fertilizer which is fairly balanced and doesn’t have to be composter completely down to use since it’s not as hot as chicken pop. So if you have a garden they can still earn their keep.
not yet. I’m trying to be cautious. The ladies dirty their water SO fast. Having him separate, I’ve noticed that his water stays relatively clear until the next morning which is probably, surely better for his wound. Eitherway, I have to put him with the ladies tomorrow, because I am having to...
He still feels a little thin, but he is eating his treats.
here is an updated photo of his bill.
let me know what you think. This was right before I changed his water and sprayed his bill.
i remember it feeling sharp yesterday. Well in that case he’s going to get more peas today. That’ll help fatten him up at least. And I’ll sprinkle some water into his feed bowl to soften his pellets. Maybe throw some peas in there. Poor Vlad.
Also, I didn’t put him back into the group yet. I wanted to post the updated picture above and get the finally approval here. I know Magnolia Ducks said to reintroduce him to the flick, but that was before the updated pic was posted. So magnolia ducks, if you see this...what do you think with...
Well at first he seemed lighter than before like he lost weight, but I keep adding feed to his bowl. For a moment I was thinking he’s just spilling his feed and not really eating it but he must be eating it. I threw in some peas in his water tub and he ate them so I know he hasn’t lost the...
