Help! Our 2mo. old duck is having some mucus discharge from his nostrils and now has a soft bump about the size of a pea where the flesh meets the bill.
He is a very noisy breather and was wondering if this sounds normal and/or what could it be and if there is something I should do.
His eyes...
Our two hens spent some time with a rooster and was wondering how soon we should candle the eggs? Since this is our first time with this, will our hens know to brood or should we get out the incubator? Thanks.
We have a very small flock of four hens in our backyard. Their grassy area has pretty much just died, and am wondering what to put down. I want something safe for them, not seed that's chemically engineered, since they'll probably just eat the seed too.
What's a good thing to grow. I would...
I got her to eat some wet/liquid food, but not much. I'm really worried because I don't know how long this will last or why she can't eat food. I've
never seen a chicken's tongue jut out like that, and not be able to eat even though you can tell she wants to. What kind of injury could the...
Thanks. I hadn't thought of making a liquid food. I was just trying some starter mash. She won't even eat a ripe strawberry...her favorite. It's the
strangest thing, she looks like an ant eater the way she tries to eat. Breaks my heart. I will definitely try both your ideas. Thanks again.
Has anyone ever had this kind of injury? Yesterday my hen was attacked by our dog, who at the time was on a short leash, and our hen was able to
escape quickly. Since I didn't see it happen, I checked her out and she looked fine, just a couple missing feathers. As I checked on her a...
How exciting Texas Star! What colors are your silkies you have coming?
It's obviously our first time with a silkie...and has she filled out fast! A month old and she has feathers EVERYWHERE!! She is much larger than
our couchin and polish chicks. ( Sure hope she's a girl...!?! ) I'd like...
Thank you both for your replies and your links. Ground pepper is exactly what it looks like. I searched her all over, especially her crest/neck and vent areas and can't find a mite...I'm assuming they look similar to a flea. It's got to be that though. They're all getting that medicated...
My 4wk. old blue silkie has developed an odd odor. I'm not sure what it is. She's healthy and thriving, but her "sisters" in the brooder don't smell at all. Also, when she fluffs around in my lap on my apron, there's little black dandriff/debris left behind. I know she's to have black skin...
Thanks for the reply Deb. He actually sustained more injuries than I first realized. The hawk got him around his whole neck as well. There is a flesh wound in the front and back of his neck. I did use the neosporin and am just watching him closely. He seems to be eating and drinking...
I have a couple three month old leghorns and one rooster was just picked up by a hawk and then dropped. He has at least one pretty good puncture through his wattle. What is the best treatment for him? Right now we're just holding him and keeping him warm. Thanks for any info.
